If someone throws Dockery numbers at him, I would agree with you (and by "Dockery Numbers", I mean an amount truly out of whack w/ the going rate for TE's). Otherwise, b/c he is as talented as any (and I mean ANY) TE out there - you find a way to resign him.

I don't think it is going to be easy unless they get to him early. The cap jumps by about 10 million next year. While we may be 5M under this year, a lot of salaries balloon next year, other teams will have a lot of cap room to spare and use to bid against us.

Hopefully, we have learned something from the Antonio Pierce fiasco.

I think he sizes up better than anyone you've listed. Of course he can be replaced....that's only common sense, anyone can.

So you pay someone else big bucks to come in and do the job of someone who is very productive? That makes ZERO sense to me.

And forget who Cooley is, NOT HARDLEY, look around the stadium look how many 47 jerseys you see if you go to any games. He will get the paycheck that he deserves, hopefully from us.

If any team looking for a top tier TE in the entire league and CC was available, they would jump all over CC.

Vernon Davis and L.J. Smith are dime a dozen players. They have skills that could be easily replaced by any TE, or in VD's case, any receiver. Dallas Clark, Jeremey Shockey and Antonio Gates can't block. So I'd put Cooley above all them right off the bat.

So that leaves Crumpler, Heap, Brady, and Witten on your list. Witten is a solid route runner, Brady is a great blocker, and Crumpler, and Heap are both. Both Crumpler and Brady are better blockers than Cooley. But no one, and I mean no one, is as sure handed or makes plays after the catch like Cooley does. Cooley is the best TE in the passing game in the league, bar none.

Once you factor in blocking, Crumpler might be a better TE, and so might Todd Heap, but thats the company he's in. And if Cooley continues to improve his blocking, he will be the leagues best TE without question. Because he does stuff in the passing game that absolutely no other TE can do.

Cooley isn't going anywhere. And i hope he wants to be a redskin because he makes the games exciting.

Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.

At worst the D line should rush the QB in making erratic throws. Landry gives us a great potential run stopper and pass rusher. Damn Williams could go nuts and blitz both ST and Landry. Someone might get decapitated this season!!!!!!

Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.

Cooley must be a priority for this franchise, this year.

Last season he was 3rd in the NFC in recieving yards for TE's

His stats were: 734 yards and 6 TD's

The two guys who had more yards were;

Witten 754 yards but only managed 1 TD to Cooley's 6.

Crumpler who amassed 780 yards, but is easily Atlanta's number one recieving option and should have alot more yards than Cooley, who had to compete with Moss, ARE and Lloyd for catches.

So, Cooley based on those stats is the best TE in the NFC, also, he was barely thrown to early in the season and really only got the ball thrown his way consistently once Campbell started. How Cooley didn't make the pro bowl still puzzles me!

He has amazing hands, is a good blocker, good burst to get open, great motor always giving 100%, has great presence on the field (Who wouldn't go into battle with captain chaos?!) and on top of all that is a very marketable player.

There is every reason to resign him and none not to.

He will be resigned!

Not only that, he did a lot more with a lot less (receptions).

Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.

Cooley has earned his payday here. Sign him and get it over with!

Whoever thinks that we wouldn't miss Cooley if we had a 12 sack DE must be smoking something. How could we not miss our top possesion receiver (who is on the verge being a perinnial Pro Bowler) because we had a DE who gets less than 1 sack per game?

Sign Cooley and address the DE, DT positions early in the draft or free agency next year.
