not to add fuel to the fire with mentioning the name ramsey here but didnt gibbs say ramsey was his starter at one point...and then end up putting brunnell in there? campbell maybe a "gibbs" draft pick but the reality is any slight injury and here comes brunell off the bench. Gibbs did it once and i am sure he wouldnt hesitate doing it again. I dont know what his infatuation is with brunell but the truth of the matter is this...brunell unfortunately is the orignal "gibbs" pick at qb.

Man I really wish Brunell's name wasn't up in that poll. Just to avoid more discussion about him and Gibbs and Ramsey and so on

You really can't make a direct comparison there.

The difference is Ramsey was not handpicked by Gibbs, Campbell was though.

Re: SportsNation knows something

Someone at ESPN must know that Skins fans would be irked over this, either that or they just didn't do their homework on this.

JC closed the season as the starter and he's our unquestioned starter headed into this season.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Here's how my conversation with them yesterday afternoon went

Smack: Hey what's the deal with this SportsNation poll? Jason Campbell is the Redskins starter, not Brunell. You gotta change that (saying this knowing full well he probably won't)

Editor: I see what you're saying. I'll change the wording to make it more clear. It's not necessarily starters. We wanted guys like Brunell who have a greater body of work in the NFL and it makes it more interesting to compare Favre to him than someone who has hardly played in the NFL yet. We threw Russell in there because he's the #1 pick.

Smack: Sure it's interesting, but what about credibility? It's only hardcore fans really that check out polls like these. And I don't think we're appealing to the fan that knows Campbell is the starter. Plus we even say JC is the starter on the team page on our website. I realize that on some teams-such as Minnesota-there are no alternatives for a guy like Travaris Jackson. But I think Campbell has started enough games in his career to be included in this poll, regardless of what Brunell has done.

Editor: He might. We wanted to try to represent each team. In retrospect, we probably should have just hand picked 10 or so QBs of different skill levels and been done with it. The difficulty comes with trying to represent each team. Thanks for the feeback. Good debate.

Smack: Yeah it's definitely tricky. I think some fans could misunderstand the poll thinking now "Wait, Brunell is the starter again? ESPN must know something we don't" I agree though, it's a tough call, as many polls can be. My vote is still for Campbell though

I don't see what's so hard in making up this poll, Campbell is clearly the starter.

That makes perfect sense. And guys like Jay Cutler(five starts), Tony Romo (ten starts), and Matt Schaub (TWO starts) all have a much more extensive body of work than Campbell as well...

Yeah I shouldn't have brought this up in the first place. I'm just digging a deeper hole for my colleagues.

Bottom line, I hear what everyone is saying and I made my point to the people that need to know. So hopefully things will be different next time

Thanks for trying. You know, you should have a sticky where you just dish dirt on ESPN and the people who work there. That would be awesome.

its certainly clear to us who the starter should be but the question is will gibbs remove the brunell blinders and go with who i think is going to be a great qb for us for many years to come. speaking of campbell that is...i certainly expect a break out year for him and our offense as a whole.

Re: SportsNation knows something

Another beef I have with ESPN was the way they unceremoniously dumped the Fabulous Sports Babe. Now there was a gal that knew a lot about football. Her midday simulcast was required viewing in the mid 90s. Obviously she did not fit the stereotype of womanhood that our misogynistic, patriarchal society imposes.

Oh, I have so many past wrongs to right. I feel like Jason Lee.

I forgot about her, she did know her stuff... I'm surprised she didn't surface elsewhere like Fox radio or something.

I just looked her up on wikipedia and it says she now has cancer. Hope he's alright.
