Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
Of course he has the right to quit and if he goes on to be successful at Arkansas I'm sure he'll be happy that he did.
Just don't expect us to be impressed with a man who takes on a five year challenge and quits when things aren't going well. I've had people quit without notice at my companies before when the stress was piling up, leaving us in the lurch, and I didn't feel warm and fuzzy about them either. |

Not so much as a Dear John letter to the guys who he asked to follow him week in and week out? Wow, and I thought the H.S. trend of breaking up with people via text and instant messages was cold and immature. Classless doesn't even begin to describe how lame and cowardly that is.

Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
yes he is part puss-e. plain and simple. Some of you ask why is it so bad?? what a stupid question. if you need to ask, make sure I never have any business dealings with you. If things dont go so well at work do you walk out and quit? If your wife is not as good as you thought after 13 weeks, do you get a divorce? I mean cmon, its all about commitment and integrity and honoring your word. Quit after the season, no problem. And if why he left now is for recruiting purposes, how is that going to help him recruit? who wants to play for a quitter?

Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
I will say this--watching even the five minutes or so of that saints game last night showed just how bad a team looks when everyone has quit. Hell, Petrino was already in the Little Rock of his mind last night, from what I saw.
As bad as things have been over here, and they have been as bad as I've ever experienced, that Atl. situation is maybe more depressing!!! Just no hope there at all right now. My guess is people can't even get angry enough about that team to watch or care or even write on message boards. Petrino didn't see any reason to stick around one more minute, I guess. Back to college to lick his wounds...

Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
We don't know all the details but I would imagine his ass would have been shit-canned by the end of the year. Can't blame the guy for jumping to safety from a sinking ship. I will say this though, he's a punk if he quit just because there was an opening elsewhere. It's 16 games for god sake and you have 3 to go...I wonder how he'll be able to tell the kids not to quit.
Honestly though, NFL teams really piss me off when they hire from the college ranks. When will they ever fucking lean? Don't hire an amateur to do a professionals job! Especially when there are plenty of qualified and capable coaches in the rank and file. I hope we never ever see the Skins hire from the college ranks again.

Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
You know what this says? Maybe DeAngelo Hall isn't as crazy as we thought he was. He was saying the whole time that basically Petrino was not a NFL coach. Turns out he was right all along...

Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
Perhaps Petrino was caught up in the glitz and glamour of the NFL when he took the job this past offseason. He was hired in January, Schaub was traded in March, Vick's operation was raided in April, and the team just lost it's 2 quarterbacks, and probably one of the reasons Petrino came to Atlanta in the first place.
1-6 going into the bye week and the players pretty much shut down for the year. The team's been in the headlines all year courtesy of Vick and an owner who openly criticizes the team and his coaching, and it became too much for Petrino. While I don't blame him for leaving and taking another job (Nick Saban really set a tone for this kind of thing), I really wouldn't expect to see Petrino back in the NFL any time soon, if ever again.

Re: Falcons Coach Petrino Quits: Intends to Sign with Arkansas
I hope the NFL learns it's lesson from this. It seems like most of these guys just don't have the emotional wherewithal to be good coaches in the NFL. You have to stick it out through the lean years to get to some winning ones. Look at Cleveland?
The notion that Petrino was hanging his hat on Mike Vick is absurd. The Falcons signed him to a multi-million dollar contract and accepted the terms of the deal with the understanding that this won't be an easy task; not this year, not next year, and maybe not year three. It just seems like no one wants to take their lumps anymore. Everyone is in a win now mode, and to an extent I can understand that. Truthfully, there really is a fine line between 11-5 and 6-10 in the NFL. Most teams are probably 7 or 10 points away from having really good records. This mentallity just sucks. |
