Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President

It was time for Joe to step down, but I was hoping that he would stay on as President though. I'm said for that because the man knows football even though coaching is over his head. Like Parcells stated earlier this (coaching) is a young man's game. I just hope that we keep Williams or Saunders as HC. I do not want some college coach to come in and changed things in this organization. We need some continuity. I'm hearing that Synder might be tempted to contact Pete Carroll or some high profile name. This would be a huge mistake. ONCE AGAIN, YOU CAN NOT BLAME HIM, HE CAN NOT COACH FOREVER!!

I just hope this doesn't set Jason Campbell back. A new head coach likely means a new OC, unless we hire Gregg Williams and he keeps Saunders.

And I thought this would be another slow work day...

I'm guessing this means some of his right hand guys like Bugel will be leaving too.
That's what I'm worried about - continuity. The only thing that's been continuous over the last 15 years has been mediocrity.

The revolving door pattern of coaches and players in this organization has got to be the central problem. That or we've got the worst luck of anyone.

I would imagine Bugel and Breaux will be gone. I really don't see GW or AS staying if the other is made HC. I could be wrong. The transition may be seamless with GW moving up and Blache becoming an actual DC. It's the FO I worry about. Even though he was still around and made some bad calls, Joe kept Vinny C in line and in his place.

I don't begrudge Joe leaving, I really think he has left the team in a better place. Hopefully, the lessons he taught about loyalty, high-character players will remain.

I agree skinsnut, I think it will be Williams. Cowher, while a quality candidate would be the quick fix that Dan would be rumored to go for. Even Pete "I don't want to coach in the NFL" Carroll's name has been thrown out there. Promote Gregg and keep things as stable as they can be. Make Blache the DC and Saunders keeps his spot.

What's your source for that?

Redskins coach Gibbs resigning today

According to that, Gibbs will stay on as a "special adviser" to Snyder. Whatever that means.

There will also be a news conference at 3:00PM.

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President

my 2 cents:

a little disappointed but i think it was time....

i hope gregg will take over

i hope al stays to run the offense (although i don't think both these things happening is realistic)

i hope kirk olividotti (linebacker coach) will at least be considered to take over the defense

i hope campbell is still the man!

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President

From the Skins site:

"Gibbs will remain part of the Redskins family and serve as a special advisor to owner Daniel M. Snyder."

That, at least, is good news. I think this probably means he will help find his own replacements and, hopefully, be Danny Boy's "football conscience".

I remember the euphoria from 4 years ago when Gibbs announced his return. This is just as unexpected but, unfortunately, I feel the opposite of euphoria.

God help us all.

That means he'll sit in Snyder's suite once or twice a year and explain some of the finer details of coaching throughout the game. So, basically, nothing.

I suppose it could be a good thing, depending on how it works out. What Snyder probably needed all along was an experienced, mature adviser to tell him when he's goofing up.

I guess we'll see how much water it really holds.
