Re: Who is Next?
Since it's nothing but speculation and conjecture, I'll throw out a name.. Steve Mariucci.. He's coached in the NFL with some success (playoff teams in SF), has some success in developing QB (was Favre's QB coach during Super Bowl and multiple Pro Bowl years, Garcia was a Pro Bowl QB and multiple times to the playoffs) and is popular amongst his players.. You can't hold Detroit against him, nobody wins in Detroit. Other than continuity, why not Mooch?

Mooch is a good coach -- but I still want Williams.

Re: Who is Next?
I wouldn't hate it if Cowher was the guy... but I would be disappointed from the standpoint that it would mean a new staff and probably some significant changes to the roster.
I'm tired of starting over every few years. At least with Williams it wouldn't be a total house cleaning. |

Re: Who is Next?
I agree,so long as williams lets saunders do his thing on offense, also i'm worried how well the team would accept somebody outside the organization right now.If williams is hired and it doesnt work out after a yr,I'd be for hiring cowher then if he was available

Re: Who is Next?
We're all assuming that with Grilliams it wouldn't be a complete house cleaning. We don't know that for sure. We don't know what kind of offense he'd want to run. We don't know if he wants to keep the same philosophy on selecting players. We know he'd keep the defense mostly the same but if he's not coaching them 100% of the time we don't know how someone else will call the game.
We also don't know that Saunders will choose to stay. He came to coach with Gibbs because of their history. Remember, he was a head coaching candidate for the Raiders and Rams before he came to us for a boatload of $$$ and to coach with Gibbs.

Re: Who is Next?
Knowing Gregg Williams is a loyalist, much as Coach Joe was, this may take the wind out of the sails of GW. The man who he had built the utmost respect for over 4 years and had shepherded the entire team through the death of Gregg's most talented and loved defensive player has left. However, also knowing GW to be a competitor with a history of head coaching experience, that part of me thinks he will lobby hard to earn the vacancy. No predictions from me about what Williams will decide to do. It could go either way.
I don't think the hiring of Cowher would negatively jolt this team. IMO, he would be a better OVERALL coach than GW. His track record and Super Bowl victory speak for themselves. Let's remember, too, that Pittsburgh was NOT a team that ventured out into the free agent market year after year and greedily pursued big names for big prices. I believe they built a blueprint much like the way the Skins are attempting to do now. Is Campbell the next Roethlisberger? No, that's an asinine thing to say. Campbell can be BETTER than Big Ben. Is Portis the next Bettis? Not even at 75 pounds lighter. But would he be able to help make the Skins' O efficient as Bettis (mixed with Parker) helped make the Steel Boys' O efficient? You bet. The defensive results would be consistently good. For the record, I voted for GW. But I wouldn't be seething at a new hire a la Cowher. |

Re: Who is Next?
I said other. I WANT Williams to stay on and be the HC for continuity reasons. But if you look at the last 4 hires, there's no indication the daniel would do that. IF we go out and get someone from outside the organization, we're probably fucked for the next two seasons.

Re: Who is Next?
I want Williams or Saunders due to the fact that a new coach could come in and clean house. This team is alot closer than anyone realizes. This creates alot more concern. If GW gets the gig does AS stay and vice versa. What is gonna happen to Joe Bugel? Gibbs longtime friend. I respect Joe for his decision and hope this will work out for the best. I will loose what little hair i have left on my head if we as Skins fans have to go through another Turner/Marty/Spurrier era. Its just not fair.

Re: Who is Next?
It should be GW. He's earned it and has been with the team for 4 years now. If there's anyone who knows team as good Gibbs does, its Williams.
Promote Blache to Asst.Head Coach defense. I wonder about what will happen to Bugel. If he goes, who do we bring in to coach the o-line? Ray Brown? |

Re: Who is Next?
Yes, that is if Williams doesn't bolt before he gets the pink slip. We've already heard his name mentioned with regard to the current coaching vacancies, and if he's not picked for the Redskins' job, he's going to go looking elsewhere.
