Mooch was 75-71, 60-43 with 49ers, and 15-28 with the Lions, and four PO appearances, no trips to SB.

LDS wants an experienced former HC, and Fassel was nearly the man four years ago, until HOF Coach Gibbs signed on for Gibbs 2.0.

LDS nearly hired Fassel a week ago, but not for the fan rebellion, and I mean, a total melt-down. B&G fans seem to overwhelmingly hate Fassel.

The new coaching staff is designed for either front-runner, and our poll favors Mooch. Many say the new coaching staff consists of Fassel's hand picked favs, but JLC's blog cites they are all in Mooch's cell phone fav five as well. HailRedskins.com forum feels it's Mooch.

Of course, the assistant coaches on the Patriots and G-nomes are to be interviewed first before an announcement is made. A mere formality imho.

Re: What the hell happened?

One other thing. Besides the coaches hired, fired, let go, or interviewed most of this info is hear say. The front office has been mums the entire time and things have jumped from one rumor to the next to the next etc... So a bunch of this information you are reading is speculation unless it is a done deal. This lack of information is what has driven people nuts. Snyder has been called every name in the book and some that are not even in a book.

Well, the running game hasn't exactly taken off like gang-busters...I mean they had a few bright spots and there was the issue with the line being banged-up all season which never helps...I guess they figured Byner had something to do with the lack of production and decided to look elsewhere.

Also, Scott Campbell got promoted to Director of Player Personnel so he's going to be very instrumental in the shaping of the roster.

Re: What the hell happened?

Before Snyder either grows old and croaks or sells the team (if he ever decides to one day). Cerrato will end up being HC at some point in time.

Bank on it.

Hey dude it was a good thing that you didn't look at the news or you would have been mad as heck the whole time you were on the island.

Danny boy has lost his fricking mind man, I'm not upset at him letting Al go ,but Gregg too makes me real mad. And bringing in that Fassal is really going to put us in deep poo next year when we could have made a real shot at winning the NC east.

So now cool off and think about all of those great sites you saw on the island because if you think about Danny boy and his flunky Vinny C too much you'll just be as angry as the rest of us.

Nail on the head right here.

Skins fans only have themselves to blame for this self induced hysteria.

Too much speculation, very little facts, and people have absolutely run wild with every rumor or whisper that has come across this site.

Re: What the hell happened?

You might want to forget about this 11 days...

Airfare to Hawaii $279
11 Day stay at hotel $936
Fishing trip $42
Spa Treatment $67
Surfing Lessons $18
Returning home to find team in disarray... Priceless.

Matty,

I agree with you about 90%...I still think part of the responsibility falls on the team and it's PR...most of the rumors didn't come from fans...they came from the press, and that was primarily due to the fact that for some reason Dan and Vinnie insisted on a cloak of secrecy that rivaled the Manhattan Project in World War II. No other team in the league has been as quiet and trivial as they have been regarding who they were interviewing, and which direction they were headed. So the press had to speculate and track the flight path of Redskins 1 to figure out what was going on. Now the hysterical reactions the fans had to this information did not help matters either. I say the blame should fall 70% team, 30% fans.

Re: What the hell happened?

Why does the team have any obligation to tell us who they are interviewing??

Because we are the self-centered fans and we want to know, who, what, where, when why, their social security number, blood type and if they have the antidote.

And if we don't get that, then damn it, we have a right to revolt and form a mob.

I never said they had the obligation to tell us jack...all I am saying is often times when you refuse to say something...be prepared for someone else to start saying it for you.

It's the information age...people are going to latch onto whatever they can find...I'm not excusing the "I'm giving up my season tickets" members of the fan base for their behavior at all. All I am simply saying is with the way the team handled the situation, they should have known that the rumors and innuendo were inevitable.

I mean Bram Weinstein said on Riggins' show last week and I'm sure that SmootSmack can confirm this, the more you try to hide a secret, the more the press is going to dig, scratch, and claw to figure it out, sometimes the consequences can be rather nasty. Unfortunately the past couple of weeks were an example of how that approach can go very wrong.

Well, the problem is lately the "press" has turned into everyone with Internet access (if even that). Suddenly, everybody on this and other message boards is a member of the press trying to connect dots, tracking flights, etc. and the word starts to spread and rumors start to flow. And it just gets really ugly and really unnecessary. To be sure, the actual press is not absolved of blame but it's largely fueled by the insatiable quest for information that dominates our society today.

But it's also just that we don't care as much about other teams as we do about ours. So we don't pay attention or even care when the Falcons (for example) are secretive and leaning one way then going another.

As for the team's role in all this. Honestly, if I'm Snyder and Cerrato I wouldn't give a you know what what the fans think. The goal is to put together a winning team and have the fans' support based on the team's performance on the field. Who cares if the fans hate the Redskins in the off-season.
