If/when he's named coach, I'll root for the Skins and hope they do well. Fassel will be okay. As for all the haters, let's hope you all have a huge "mea culpa" at the end of the season.

Sometimes I think the hate at Fassel is just fan reaction to Little Danny and the Evil Dwarf and bears no relation to Fassel's coaching abilities.
Yes, you are exactly right. It si not a knock on Fassel, but anger toward this entire crazy process. I think most of the frustrated fans are upset that we fired two very qualified coaches that most people liked only to replace them with two lesser canidates. Saunders and Williams will get hired quickly. Fassel most likely will not be a HC unless Snyder hires him. That says alot.

Perhaps much of the anti Fassel feeling is spanning the globe because so many were under the illusion that Williams was automatically going to get the position, and when it didn't happen, felt betrayed and dissapointed.

Fassel survived 7 years in a New York media market without snapping. He did so while coaching a steady diet of mediocre to poor talent into the playoffs a bunch of times. The SB appearance had more to do with getting to play the Eagles and the Vikings in the playoffs than actually having a great team, but the inconsistencies can be explained by the lack of great talent on that team.

The 2008 Redskins will likely be the most talented team Jim Fassel has ever coached, should he get the job.

If there isnt much difference between them, then why would DS inteview both??? maybe its because they are vastly different and thats what you find out during inteviewing.... mark my words, on today Ground Hog Day 2008, FASSEL IS A DUD......

I do realize this is a win win, because if I am wrong the skins are doing well, although this does not mean I have to like F'n Fassel

Granted, this is a bit off topic, but what about Grimm? Any reason the Skins haven't contacted him? They've contacted just about everyone else, why not him?

Don't get me wrong, I love Grimm and would have loved him as a HC with the Skins. DS is looking for someone with HC experience, That why they will select either Fassel or Mooch.

At this point I don't even care who coaches the damn team. It's getting old.

I concur, at this point I'll just be happy when this process is done with, a coach is selected [whomever that may be] and we can move on with the business of football. I'm going to support the selection unlike some who are going to jump off bridges, and root for the Cowboys.

What we continue to say here has been discussed at great length in the [Something To Chew On] thread started by Matty just a couple days ago.

bram said something i hadnt thought of about the mooch . . he comes off as a guy who just wants to get paid and have important titles to his name, not someone who will put in a 100% effort . . . that being said, with the zorn hire we need a WC offense head coach i suppose and i havent followed mooch's coaching career close enough to make my own personal assesment of him

enoyed reading the different views people have on our current state of disarray.

I think with either Mooch or Fassel, we'll be fine. I'm ready to welcome the new guy in and get things off to a new start.

I agree that there was gonna be change, and at first I was impressed with Snyder's patience, but now I'm not so sure. I mean the man has thrown around offers to a couple of retreads, allowed the fans to influence his HC decision, and sabotaged and legitimate chance to hire anyone but Fassel because of the hiring of his coordinators. On top of that, there doesn't seem to be a clear plan in place in what they are looking for; looking at a DC coordinator who runs a 3-4. Now there are rumors leaking that Danny and Vinny are chomping at the bits for Chad Johnson, and have even brought it up in the interviews!!

I am becoming less optimistic about this by the minute. I'd like to give DS the benefit of the doubt, but Im not sure he has earned that. His past, and the lack of methodology to his approach, makes me feel incredibly apprehensive about the next coaching era.
If he let fans influence his HC decision then GW would have benn HC. What you said makes no sense.

I meant when fans flipped out, causing him to delay hiring Fassel.

I do not think there is a difference in what they have achieved but their philosophies are rather different...
Fassel is as conservative as Gibbs if not more...
Mooch will bring a version of the west coast offense and may bring a more excited style of ball to DC.

Is one more destined to succeed? No, but in the years after, will we be better off I think so...

I also think that Mooch is much more candid with everyone...I feel comfortable that if Mooch is the HC he will do the best he can. Fassel just does not make me feel as if he will be able to carry the weight of football in DC!

Oh, screw it! I'm going to go ahead and make my predictions folks. Get ready, because Fassel is going to be on board by the end of next week. Best thing for us to focus on now is which players we think Fassel will keep and which ones he's cutting loose.

Re: After Mooch interview, John Clayton still predicts Fassel

Steve Mariucci has not yet formally interviewed with Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato. That will take place tomorrow, before the game.

I have hope that Snyder and Cerrato will make the best hire for the Washington Redskins team possible at this time, which in my view is Mariucci.

The Washington Times, America's Newspaper

Difficult as it is to start over with the coaching leadership, a Mariucci hire does give long term hope to the team in my opinion. He is the best available coach, I believe, to navigate us in the next era of Redskins football.
