What have I done ? I just wanted to stand up for Coles and bring attention to the fact that the guys been through a lot, I never wanted too accuse people of making fun of or being insensitve towards special victims. Looks like I opened a can of worms. For everyone that feels I accused them of victim bashing I appologize.

Maybe I should go to ES, at least there I can make fun of "Om's" smiley faces .

Yeah, I think maybe you assumed that none of us were aware of it. And the reality is that a lot of guys in the NFL have been through a lot. Have they all been molested? Probably not, but still doesn't take away from the fact that several players have been through hell or worse.

dirtbag, I dont understand why you are taking stuff so seriously. What Brudlee said was nothing bad. Any of the mods either, go back and read what they said. They explained their position without attacking you. We are the place for knowledgable fans, and with that comes members approaching arguments in a rational way that can be perceived to be mean/too blunt but is not the intention. I understand when 2-3 people argue against you it seems like they are jumping on you, but non of the posts were mean.

Also talking about ES, atleast here you can take shots at mods, see the other thread about Om banning a long time member because of a joke. I still dont understand why people think ES is more liberal.

Wrong, he had TWO GREAT years with the SKINS. If you where to remember in 2003 he also made the Pro Bowl.

You would almost rather have BL.....huh, that piece of shit hasn't even had A GOOD GAME IN DC in two years!

Re: Coles Says Jets Lied to Him

36 posts on this thread and no one has hit the real meat of this story. Coles isn't complaining that he's underpaid. He's complaining that the Jets lied to him and misled him about their intentions, stringing him along and repeatedly putting off an extension. If they promised him an extension, then praised him for his toughness and selflessness, then state their reason for not signing him as lack of production... that's pretty bogus if you ask me. Especially coming from a team with huge QB issues, and poor running game, and a lousy offensive line. It's not like he stunk up the joint with Peyton Manning throwing to him. Clemens is totally unproven and Pennington couldn't throw a football through a wet paper towel.

Coles is a leader on that team and the one constant on an otherwise anemic offense. They should resign him. He and Cotchery are a pretty good tandem. Bottom line is the Jets are cheap.

I'm sure Pete Kendall would agree with that

If they said they'd extend him and don't, it's a tough break. If they said they'd "take care of him," they have offered to guarantee his salary. That's a big deal.

Re: Coles Says Jets Lied to Him

I love LC and would love to see him resigned. Let me remind everyone that the Jets drafted him and gave him time to develop even after no one wanted him because of the FSU Dilliard's incident and a battery charge. This is business folks. I can think of dozens of players recently who said that they were done wrong with contract negotiations, some on the Skins. The Jets offered to guarantee, yes a guarantee in the middle of his contract, for 2 years $11 million. Now that is rare and is far from 'cheap.'

Everything Coles says is true -- he's been a good player, a good leader, a guy who will play hurt. But he's hardly been underpaid. He's averaged about $5.5 million a year since the expiration of his rookie contract while averaging about 950 receiving yards a season and is scheduled to be paid as a top 15 WR in 2008. In two years, his best seasons will be behind him and extending him and giving him a raise is not prudent.

Coles is as tough as they come, but you Skins fans know all about the whining. He DEMANDED a trade after not being a big part of the Gibbs offense in 2004. Prior to that in 2003, he admitted to leaving the Jets "because the Redskins offered him more money." Where was HIS loyalty then?

He still has two years left on his deal why would the Jets extend his deal at this time? Maybe next year he has something to complain about but not with two years left. If he thought his numbers would increase over the next two years do you think he would be complaining about a new deal?

Dirtbag -

My counterpoint was not intended to slight your point about Coles. Check the record here on our support of him when that news came out. IIRC we mods were zero tolerance on anyone who broached that subject matter in a lighthearted manner.

My point (and I do have one) is that Coles put himself in a bad situation here by demanding a trade when he didn't like the offense in 2004 (despite catching 90 passes, he thought he was being misused). He appears to be putting himself in a bad situation in New York now by stating he need to be taken care of financially, despite collecting more bonus money in the past five years than nearly every player in the game.

As a boy, Coles was the victim of an unspeakable crime. That is completely seperate from his professional travails now.

Like I said. I opened a can of worms and I'm sorry. I let my emotions get the best of me on a touchy subject. If anything I wish we could delete all my posts and the responses to the subject I brought up. This whole ordeal turned into an unintentional troll.

If anything the Warpath is a place for discussing Football, and more specifically Redskin football. My post is completly off topic and is relatively close to producing the same effect that the trolls produced during certain events over the past year.

Right now I just want to get back to talking Redskin football, and discuss how we're going to get rid of our picks this year.

If Coles were a free agent now he would not get a big deal...he's not as good as he thinks he is and he's hit 30.

Re: Coles Says Jets Lied to Him

Don't like Coles. Liked him when he came on board with the redskins, but began complaining about not getting enough balls???? 90 BALLS ISN"T ENOUGH? Then he wouldn't get surgery on his toe, which to this day hasn't healed right. It is not worth the trouble to get him involved.
