Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
Hopefully he'll learn quickly. I know he wasn't the hardest worker at USC, but he could slack off there and still be one of the best players on the team. Not the case in the NFL, plus there's big big bucks riding on it now. I imagine some of the vets and certainly the coaching staff will get in his ear. Fortunately he doesn't have legal red flags. If it's just a matter of simple laziness, hopefully the money that comes with being a NFL player will help get rid of that. Hopefully.

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
Come on, there is no rookie in the history of the league stupid enough to intentionally miss their first practice. My point being that it is safe to assume this was just a stupid foul up on Davis's part and not indicative of a lack of respect for hard work anything like that. If anything he has a chip on his shoulder now that should motivate him to work even harder.

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
I say trade him to Dallas!
Just kidding. His contract will suffer, perhaps not money, but there will be a stipulation about missing meetings, etc. Guaranteed! Hopefully he'll come around. Don't know about yall, but I'd never be late for 2nd or 3rd day of work. Not a big deal yet. We'll see if he shows up for 'voluntary' OTAs...

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
I'll never forget the first time I booked a cruise vacation. I was sure that I set both my wife's and my alarm clocks right. Apparently I didn't, and we missed our 7:00 am flight. Spent the whole day at the airport panicking that we'd miss the boat. Finally got the last possible flight and made it to the ship literally 5 minutes before it set sail. Point is, that was incredibly important to me at the time and could have meant thousands of dollars lost to me. Everyone makes mistakes........That said, I've never overslept for a flight again because I double and triple check the alarm clocks and set our cell phone alarms too in case the power goes out. So, if this is a one-time incident, I understand. If he does it again, I would not accept ANY excuse.

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
He was still on west coast time. It was 4am on his clock.
I hope the person that said he has a reputation of missing meetings at USC was kidding. If so, this kids needs to grow up fast or he brings his mommy to camp to wake him and dress him. |

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
At this point, it's a red flag - something to keep an eye on. If he's a boy scout from here on in then I've got no beef. But I'm definitely watching him.
He ought to take one thing to heart though: he's not going to make much money in this league if he's got to battle both the snooze button AND Chris Cooley. One is already daunting enough.

I'd probably suspend him for the year if he does it again.

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
Okay, I can see oversleeping and missing the first practice. My question is why didn't he wake up or someone find him in time for afternoon session?
There is a lot of time missing that no one is talking about. |

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
I think they might have only gone for one session yesterday. Not positive about that, but I think there were only five minicamp practices (2 Fri, 2 Sat, 1 Sunday)

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
Just got this from Clayton's article on espn.com.
"5. No ZZZs with Zorn New Redskins coach Jim Zorn had the most entertaining minicamp. Jason Campbell seems to be responding to Zorn's unique coaching methods. Clinton Portis, in his best shape as a Redskin, almost beat safety LeRon Landry in a match race. Landry ran a 4.35 40 coming out of college, but Portis wanted to challenge him. Then there was second-round pick Fred Davis. He couldn't sleep Saturday night because his roommate wouldn't shut up. So he went to the desk of the hotel and asked for a different room. He slept until 11 a.m., and the team couldn't find him because he wasn't in the right room. Zorn wants his players alert -- but Fred, tell the roommate to shut up and don't forget the wakeup call." |

Re: Fred Davis a No Show at Practice
What a Dum ass! Dude slept in on the 3rd day! I haven’t overslept and missed something important sense I was in the 7th grade. All I can say is I sure hope this isn't the start of things to come.
