Re: Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it
It is a new system as far as the passing game and blocking schemes.
His money is guaranteed, he needs to stop complaining and do his job. I'm going to my boss right now and tell him that i dont want to get ready for the big meeting, that I need rest. We will see how that one goes over.

Re: Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it
I think it is a little early in the preseason for him to play. However, I do think he needs to start getting reps in the second to last and the last game of the preseason. Not in game 2 of 5 in the preseason. He is too valuable, but in the same right needs to get the rust off. So he needs to drop the attitude, do what the coaches ask, and play football like the rest of the starters.
Look at Santana Moss, every year he pulls a hammy, and he is a BIG part of our offense do we sit him? How bad would it hurt if we lost Cooley? Do we sit him? Our aging o-linemen who seem to get hurt each year, are very important. Do we sit them? Come on CP...be a team player! |

Re: Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it
they said specifically that the running games was still coach Gibbs. if that's true, it really serves NO purpose to play portis. i say let him sit. and some people around here make me laugh. if Portis doesnt chase down that interception, and pretty much walks off, i can hear that now. about how he gave up, and isn't a team player. he is too important to the skins. yo Clinton, can you carry a clip board?

Re: Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it
Normally I'd say no, but we have a new offense. Sure the running game is supposed to stay the same, but with his involvement in pass blocking, he needs to be on the same page as the rest of the offense in that aspect of the offense.
That said, I hope he only gets a few series and his carries are limited to minimize the injury risk. He plays as hard as he can whenever on the field, whether it is preseason or the playoffs. It's a great attribute to have, but it has hurt him (literally) in the past.

That's what camp is for. Not sure what a series or two against a vanilla defense is going to do in the long run in that regard.

Especially the passing game, there are nuances to it than even affect CP in protection as the pickups have to be quicker. If it wasn't beneficial for the starters to play, they'd sit the whole unit. |

If you listen to his comments, is Portis trying to send a subtle message to JZ..............Coach, I know what's best, AND Clinton will let you know when it's time?

Re: Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it
I had to vote yes merely for the fact that Portis needs to get some reps and build some stamina. 3 carries this week, maybe 5 next week, 10 the following week and then rest him before the opener.

Re: Portis to play Saturday - he doesn't seem too happy about it
Come on guys, he needs his rest. Those Eastern Motors commercials can really wear a guy down. Unbelievable they would even ASK him to play football. This Zorn guy has a lot of nerve! LOL.
Seriously though, Clinton Portis is starting to give me tired-head.

man he whines a lot. apparently it's cool for every other start to play in preseason, but it's criminal to expect him to held to the same standard...
