On to the thread. These next four if we just take one at a time, don't look any further than one game. Which the team has been GREAT at, I like our chances in all four!

About time we get some easier competition. The other two teams being talked about as "top 3" are Tennessee and the Giants. The following is a dupe post I made in the Chris Carter thread, but it's probably more relevant here:

Tennessee's opponents have a combined record of 5-17, which is close to, if not dead last as far as strength of schedule. Two of their wins are over winless teams (Cincy and Houston). 3 of their wins are at home.

Our opponents have a combined record of 15-8, good for toughest in the league. We're 2-1 on the road, and have played 1 less home game thus far.

Yes, Tennessee's defense is fantastic, and their running game is very good, but they struggle to put up points big time. I don't think they are better than us, but they currently have a better record, so the argument can be made I guess.

Frankly I don't like all the press we're getting. I much prefer being an underdog and nobody thinking we're any good. I hate hype. Chris Carter is just one of thousands of talking heads. Good for him for having an opinion.

On a side note, the other team being talked about as top three in the league, the Giants, have played opponents with a combined record 5-14. Other than the Skins, their opponents are 1-13. Pathetic.

Re: The Next Four:StL, Cle, Det, and Pit

All modesty and coach speak aside, we can all agree that ON PAPER we should win the next 3 games and emerge at the midpoint 7-1.

-More points from the passing game.. Campbell is in a nice groove right now, taking what the defense gives him and not making mistakes. I'd like to see him take a few more shots down the field to Thomas and Randle-El as well as Moss. Showing, and hopefully connecting, on some of those shots will open up more running lanes and the underneath for Cooley and could make our offense nearly unstoppable.

-Continued improvement from Thomas, Brooks and Horton. These are some games that can really give our younger players more confidence heading into the 2nd half of the season. Thomas is closing to earning a permanent nickname ("P.I." for pass interference!) but he has shown a couple flashes of his ability. Brooks is in the same boat, showing flashes but needs consistency and we've got the makings of a star in Horton once he eliminates the mental errors that the coaches keep noting. Having these 3 as solid contributors down the stretch can make a big difference for us.

-Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush=more turnovers! We are putting a lot of pressure on our secondary right now by not getting to the QB. Taylor & Washington should wait until they are 100% before coming back so they are at full strength for the balance of the schedule. I'd like to see more of Chris Wilson and Rob Jackson in the rotation and if we are up in these next few games, let's dial up some blitzes to get more pressure on the QB and force some mistakes.

Wink Re: The Next Four:StL, Cle, Det, and Pit

You've about summed it up for me Paintrain. Hopefully we'll play well through this stretch and tune some things up for the second half of the season. Like Blache says " It's not how you start, it's how you finish." We need to continue our intensity and continue to grow and expand our offense. The young guys should cut down their mental errors and be more consistent with more playing time. A strong pass rush would make this "D" even better. We're getting pressure, which certainly helps, but our DB's are playing excellent right now. A consistent pass rush with some sacks could send this "D" to a whole 'nother level. And would'nt that be nice. With what the "D" has done to 5 of the 6 top offenses in the league, these next few games could be really fun to watch if the intensity stays at a high level.

Re: The Next Four:StL, Cle, Det, and Pit

They should be fine for this stretch. Zorn is the only coach I've seen who is talking about botched plays in the interview right after a win. This tells me the players are not thinking game-to-game, they're thinking play-to-play. So every PLAY needs to be well done. This maintains a player's concentration much better than focusing on a complete game.

Since they know that they'll get chewed out if they screw up, even if they get an ugly win, they're going to make sure they're doing what they should be doing.

So that just leaves it to the coaches to call a good game, which seems quite likely.

I just hope on this stretch they can get more practice on how to finish drives in the endzone.
