JESUS! What a WASTE of a 6th rounder!!!!!

OMG THEY SHOULD FIRE VINNY!!!!

Just joking (actually not about the firing Vinny part ) - to be honest this was a risk they took and it didn't pan out. The draft is all about risk - I'm sure this kid had a huge leg when they looked at him on the practice field but it sometimes just doesn't translate. Thankfully, a 6th round pick is more or less worthless and it seems like they picked up a comparable talent off the street.

I have that feeling too. He might have been a bit of a smartass. Anyway I don't see anything wrong with taking a chance with a 6th round pick on someone who might've become one of the best at their position. It did'nt work out. Whoopty -doo. A lot of 6th rounders don't work out. Given his creditials he looked like a good pick. I believe he led the nation in punting and won the Ray Guy award. AND it was a position of need. It's not like taking Heath Shuler or Desmond Howard in the 1rst round.

I remember Danny Wuerfel or whatever his name doing a kick off once. Maybe he's interested?

Re: Redskins Add New Punter

does it count as irony to say VC's decision to draft a punter in the 6th round was terrible, and especially because VC really should have drafted someone(to be named later) because then VC would have proven how smart he was...

Please it was a 6th round choice, probably 75% or more have already been cut.

I was wondering that too -- how about Randle El? That would make opposing ST coaches piss their pants.

I know this is a punter thread, but I gotta disagree. Kelly was initially projected as a mid to possibly top 10 1st round pick. Yes he had one slow 40 time that hurt his stock, but his biggest red-flag all along was knee issues. And since we drafted him, he's had that same knee operated on and subsequently drained at least twice. He's contributed zero because of a pre-existing issue we were well aware of when choosing him. He's not killing us on the field because he can't manage to get into uniform come Sundays. Sure we can't label this a bust yet, but it has all the early makings of an awful pick in my opinion.

As far as Brooks, two tears in a bucket. I agree that we should have used a 6th round pick elsewhere and signed him as UDFA, but whatever.

I thought that it would take some painful time to replace #21. Horton is not the same as 21, of course, but happily he proved me wrong about the pain.

Redskins.com says Plackemeier will assume the holding duties...

Re: Redskins Add New Punter

The Wash Post says that Brooks was placed on the waived/injured list, which means he can be placed on IR for the Skins if he clears waivers. Wonder if we'll do that....

Re: Redskins Add New Punter

Why is this such a big deal? We all knew it was coming after Sunday's game. Brooks didn't pan out, and he was a sixth round pick. So far our draft isn't looking that bad so give it a rest. As for Plackemeier, I think he's at least average which is more than we can say for Brooks, so we're not in a worse position than we were before. And besides if Plackemeier pans out (not saying he will, just saying he's young and he's gonna have some time to give it a shot) than it won't be an issue at all.

Unfortunately I disagree. Kelly, Thomas, and Davis have done next to nothing. Reinhart hasn't dressed for a game yet. Brooks was cut. Tryon has looked poor. Rob Jackson may pan out but hasn't really done anything, nor has Kareem Moore. Colt Brennan was a good pick I think, and Horton is obviously a stud and a steal. But I wouldn't say we had a good draft by any means. Hopefully they prove me wrong. Pass catchers usually take a while to develop, so I'm not ready to write off any of our top 3 picks.

Re: Redskins Add New Punter

I think Thomas hasn't been too bad. has had some key receptions, and sure had penalties, but cant expect tons bc we already have Thrash, ARE and Moss.
