Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Steelers)

Everything went wrong last night, no sense in singling out players to me.

An all around embarrassing night for the team and for the board. Some of the behavior on here was just pathetic.

Back to the game, that's one of those games you quickly sweep under the rug and move on from.

Once again like after the rams game our D have now move up to #4 overall and we lost. The offense has got to help damnit.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Steelers)

How about having to sell out on 6+ blitzes in order to generate pressure? The defense played well (and got no help from the offense), but the inability to pressure QBs with the front four left them vunerable on the back end on key plays. It would be nice if Jason Taylor could play like he was in the first part of the Carolina preseason game prior to injury and you could actually get Taylor, Carter, and Evans all on the field at the same time. Let's hope Taylor can somehow get right over the bye.

i agree with all of these problems, but i think the biggest one was that we gave up on the run very quickly, even in the first half when we were leading or at least in the game. if you keep pounding the ball eventually something good will happen. nothing good happened in the passing game. at least now we have a bye to rest and recuperate for dallas

GAMEDAY THREAD: I'm the one who called the fans on the thread last night fairweather. Sorry that I offended people. Maybe that was a poor choice of words but its discouraging to hear REDSKIN fans scream that we suck. When at the games sometimes when things are not in our favor, I hear the fans yelling such awful things about us! Maybe fairweather is not the word to use but I can say that they are not very supportive when things are down. 6-3 is not a bad start and I do not understand why so many of our fans are writing us off.

Jim Zorn: No game plan for LB blitzes? No misdirection? No originality.

JC: 2 primetime games and 2 bad performances

Carlos Rogers: Is there anything else to say, catch the ball.

Chris Horton: He can play, we've got something there.

Offensive Unit: I won't say the Q word, but it seemed close to not caring too much.

Fed Ex: The most embarrassed I've been as a Skins Fan in a while. At home for MNF, 2 good teams and Steelers fans make up 25-30k in the house.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Steelers)

Gotta agree with all of that. I thought the D played really well, though. 'Los dropped an int but had a good game considering how much he was thrown at.

Our D couldn't get off the field to save their lives and gave the offense several opportunities to make something happen. Pass protection was our biggest shortcoming. Big adjustments need to be made there.

If it weren't for a blocked punt and a BS PI call the game really wouldve taken on a more favorable landscape. We had to abandon the run and they teed off on Campbell all night. I'm just glad he's not hurt.

Also casey rabach should be sodomized with a pinecone for every committed penalty. He's killing us as bad as Jansens piss poor pass protection.

The dropped pick was a momentum killer. It could have been a legitimate knockout punch if he returns it and Washington is up 13-3 at the half. However, I disagree that Rogers was the weak link. The interference call was due to a poorly thrown pass, and I have to believe the ridiculous cushions were due to Blache's poor play calls.

Oh, and it wasn't Rogers that got torched for 50 yards by the third wide receiver...

You do want to have this game right before the bye week, because it gives your staff plenty of times to get things corrected.

The Steelers' front seven is unbelievable. I've never seen a group that is so good at getting pressure on the QB AND can stay in it's run gaps.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs Steelers)

My thoughts.
I think I saw way too many 3 to 4 wide receiver sets. The 'Skins should have focused on running the ball first so that the blitzers have to chase Portis and wear them down...
Also, this further shows there is huge need for a productive 3rd wide receiver on the team.
Also, what was up with the ad nauseum blitizing? The damage from the pass to Moore could have been minimized if linebackers were dropped back.

I know I'm gonna get crapped on but... this felt like Gibbs football all over again.

On to Rogers - he ain't Springs and not even in the same solar system as Bailey. Rogers cannot be our #1 corner beyond this year or we'll never be a contender.

Totally agree on Jansen but the FO bet the farm w/ him this year so we're stuck w/ a gaping hole at RT. We didn't draft shit for the OL and this is the result. (Heyer must not be healthy yet which tells me he's less and less looking like a long term Skin and Rhinehardt has yet to wear a jersey).
The better team won last night. But why in the hell did we draft Thomas if we're not going to try and throw it downfield once or twice? I'm getting so freakin tired of all the 5-6 yards passes. Sure we can beat the Det's and Clev's throwing these little bitch passes but not the good teams. It's annoying watching an NFL team not try and push the ball downfield. Is this the 06 offense??? Pittsburgh threw it downfield and it helped them win the game. WTF Zorn??

Sorry but I'm not ready to call these guys the 85 Bears. They're good but c'mon. We got the ball twice deep in Pitt's territory and couldn't even get a first down. I think that's more of our offense being inept than them being unbelievable.

I don't know how aggressive an attack we'll see so long as Samuels isn't fully healthy and more importantly Jansen is playing. I mean I hate saying it because of all he's done for the team over the years but Jansen is an absolute liability on the field.

No doubt. The Steelers are good but let's not go overboard. They're not that great. The Eagles and Giants beat them. The Steelers were on the road and stomped our butts at our home field. A good team rarely let's that happen. We've done it 2 times in a row. We've got decent team, i do believe, but we haven't taken that next step. We've still got 7 games to do that.
