Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Still rolling tonight over the sabres makes 9 wins outta the last 11 games. This team is on fire with a lot of call ups from Hersey.
When they get healthy, my gosh....no team will be able to contain this team, they can't now! Tonights 3-2 win over the sabres was a hard hitting action filled game. Theo looked better, more comfortable right outta the gates. Goal scorers: Kozzy Brash OR MAYBE Gordo? Ovy= Another high light reel! SWEET Overall really good game. Nice to see the young bucks from Hersey stepping up and playing well, and a lot of different players are getting into the action scoring, hitting , assists, good D, just really solid overall team play. Just what the Dr. ordered for this winning group! KEEP ROLLIN CAPS!!!!!

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
I think we've got all the players necessary for a run at the cup- they just aren't all healthy right now. If we're playing like this with Semen, Federov, and Green hurt... The sky is the limit. I'd just like to see our road record improve.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 30 (UPI) --
Jose Theodore made 31 saves Tuesday to pace the Washington Capitals' 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who have won four straight and nine of 10 overall. Chris Bourque, son of Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque, scored the first goal of his NHL career and Brooks Laich also scored. Adam Mair and Clarke MacArthur each scored a goal and Ryan Miller gave up three goals on 30 shots for the Sabres, who have lost four of their last five. The Caps scored in less than 2 minutes with a power play. Alexander Ovechkin sent a quick pass to Slava Kozlov who sent it to Backstrom, who fired the puck on net and Laich put it in. |

Yes another great showing from the #1 CAPS! Great game. Theo is finally stepping up (Hope it lasts). Starting to look more confident every game.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Tonight we bump heads with the bolts. I look for us to defend our home ice as usual, and that will put us in the win column again! GO CAPS!!!!!
Notes from the Caps Insider: Posted at 11:39 AM ET, 01/ 1/2009 Thursday Morning Update Brent Johnson was the first goaltender off the ice this morning and will start tonight against the Lightning. This will be Johnson's first start since Dec. 20 against Philadelphia, when he was pulled after allowing three goals on 13 shots in the Flyers' 7-1 win. Prior to that game Johnson won five straight starts. "As good as Theo has played Brent has also played well and deserves a start," Coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Looking around the league this year you need both goaltenders....Very few teams have been able to run with one at all times so we have to keep our guys sharp." *Karl Alzner told me he's good to go and Tyler Sloan will be sent down to Hershey. He walked out of Kettler this morning as the rest of the Caps settled in for their morning meeting. *It's definitely a good sign that Alexander Semin (back) skated for the second-straight day, but he wasn't skating all out when he did participate in a few shooting drills, but spent most of his on-ice time stretching along the boards. Boudreau said he wants to see how Semin feels after the next full practice but estimated that he could be ready to play in the next week.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Not the prettiest of wins but it will do! The winning streak continues. 7-4 over bolts
Ovy nails ex-CAP Jamie Heward into the boards (clean hit) mid way in the 3rd period, dangerous moment he went out like a light bulb. Approx. 8-10 mins later they are carting Huard off on stretcher. Off to the hospital to have his neck checked out/concussion. Scoring from all over the team, nice. Of course Ovy got 1. Good showing between the pipes from Johnson. LETS KEEP ROLLING CAPS!!!!! Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
I wasn't able to actually take a break and sit and watch the game until the begining of the second. I rolled my silverware and cought the first 10 mins. Couple of good fights, a couple of goals, then something went all funky with the oven hood and they had to throw the breakers. By the time I got to Hoss's for my after work beer, I saw them taking Huard out on the stretcher.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
CAPS host rangers tonight @ 7pm. This will be a tough game even at home. We need to be very sharp to get in the win column on this one!
Washington Capitals - Preview: NY Rangers @ Washington - 01/03/2009 Good news on Jamie Heward after that scary moment at Verizon the night before last against the bolts! True class act! At his age in the later stages of his career I sincerely hope he has a full recovery quickly, unfortunately hes on a sorry team but it wasn't long ago we was one of CAPS NATION!! Posted at 9:50 PM ET, 01/ 2/2009 Heward: Ovechkin is 'One of the Cleanest Players' Jamie Heward met with the reporters earlier today when he arrived back in Tampa, which for anyone who saw him lying unconscious at Verizon Center yesterday is a great thing to hear. Thanks to Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times for passing Heward's quotes from the session along. Heward, who is doing as well as anyone could hope, only found out today that it was Alex Oveckin who hit him. "Once I found out it was Alex, he's in my opinion, he's probably one of the cleanest players in the NHL as far as being honest," Heward said. "He'll play hard on you, but now that I know it was him, I know it wasn't intentional. I played with him for two years. We were pretty tight when I played there. I totally agree, and I think it was an accident." *Read more from Heward at both the St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Tribune blogs.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Seriously, how has no one mentioned the Semin "fight" from over the weekend yet? I'd post a video link but youtube is blocked here at my office. If you haven't seen it yet do yourself a favor and check it out.
The man is a great hockey player and all but someone needs to teach him to punch.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Yeah, Semin was a bit feminine during that fight, definitely a Ralphie Parker moment. I don't think Staal thought Semin would fight him...

Damn, I'll have the rewatch the clip at home. But there no doubt that he went after Staal so I have to give him that. He looked like he learned to fight by watching that monkey guy from the movie Bloodsport.
