Re: If we had to part w/ one more player...
Which brings up the question: Why haven't we signed a real kicker and a real punter?
As for who I'd cut: Thrash. That's because he really won't have a role on this team if the young WR's do anything this season and we would clear $850K in cap room by cutting him. BTW, it is short-sighted to say we should cut Rabach. Even if we brought in another center to push Rabach, that player would have a lot to learn before he could effectively take over the position. That's why Rabach needs to stay. What we should do is draft a center this year, because there are at least five promising ones available in the 2009 draft, and that player could be groomed to take over the position down the line. Alex Mack, California Height: 6-4. Weight: 311. Projected 40 Time: 5.13. Combine 40 Time: DNP. Benchx225: DNP. Arm: 33. Projected Round (2009): 1. Max Unger, Oregon Height: 6-5. Weight: 309. Projected 40 Time: 5.20. Combine 40 Time: 5.27. Benchx225: 22. Arm: 33 1/2. Projected Round (2009): 1-2. Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas Height: 6-4. Weight: 301. Projected 40 Time: 5.14. Combine 40 Time: 5.14. Benchx225: 26. Arm: 31 1/4. Projected Round (2009): 2. Eric Wood, Louisville Height: 6-4. Weight: 310. Projected 40 Time: 5.09. Combine 40 Time: 5.17. Benchx225: 30. Arm: 33 3/4. Projected Round (2009): 2-3. Antoine Caldwell, Alabama Height: 6-3. Weight: 309. Projected 40 Time: 5.13. Combine 40 Time: 5.23. Benchx225: 23. Arm: 34. Projected Round (2009): 2-3. RABACH!!! He's always been mediocre and with 2 prospects available at C (Mack and Unger) we can save 2.3 mil releasing him.

I think there are at least five good prospects available at C in this draft (see my edited post above). Nevertheless, even if we take one, I think we're going to need Rabach for at least one more season until the young C is ready.

Probably Betts. Aside from the occasional first down catch he seems like more negative happens when he is out there (missed blocks, fumbles) than good.
Also, Thrash. He's a special teams stud and a all around pro, I get it, but I've watched a few of our '08 games recently and he drops so many passes he makes me miss Rod Gardner's consistency. He should never be inserted on offense ever again.

It's not a popular pick, but I don't care. London Fletcher for the age and Salary cap factor only. In no way do I believe that he cannot play the position anymore or that he is too old now. This would strictly be a youth/salary cap movement.
I like London Fletcher, but this is a business. |

I'd probably say Jon Jansen in all honesty. Love the guy, but he's struggling just to stay upright it seems. I don't know if he has much left to give and it would (hopefully) force us to realize we need to go after an OT

I can see that, but the thought of handing it over to Heyer still makes me nervous. Sorry for giving you hell.

Typical ego behavior. I shouldn't even be surprised anymore

That's the thing I don't get with people about Betts. How's he suppose to be productive when he never gets the ball? I'd like to see him get a lot more carries than he's been getting.
