Re: Game Preview: Redskins @ Lions
I think the comment above was not meant to disparage all young Skins fans. I think it was aimed at one or two specific people. Heck, when I had no beard and all of my hair, I was as rabid for the Skins as anyone. There's nothing wrong with youthful fans. Keep the faith! HTTR!

Re: Game Preview: Redskins @ Lions
I'll just be glad when this Sunday is over. You'd think this was the pivotal game of the season or something.

Re: Game Preview: Redskins @ Lions
Unfortunately with the help of the media, fans who love to focus on the negative, and an owner who may be reverting to his pre-Gibbs ways, this is a pivotal game.

Here's the first part of an exchange between SS and I. I didn't know this prior to SS posting it.

I think he has set the team up well, even in the sense that if JC/Zorn don't pan out this year, then we drop the trifecta of VC/JZ/JC and we start fresh with a new front office and a strong Defense. But I also don't think it will come to that, and that this team and coach have the ability to be in every game until the clock expires. I also believe we will win more than we lose. |

Re: Game Preview: Redskins @ Lions
My biggest concern is Calvin Johnson who has a couple of inches on Hall. I'm confident our rushing defense will be able to contain Kevin Smith. Which hopefully will apply pressure on Matt Stafford to beat us through the air. A rookie QB against our stout defense is our advantage.
On offense, the match up is favorable for us. The Detroit Lions are ranked 27th in total defense. 24th against the pass, and 22nd against the run. I expect Campbell to be able to sit in the pocket comfortably and just unleash. I feel Campbell has more confidence in the shotgun formation. And hopefully Zorn will let him operate from there more often. Redskins shouldn't have any trouble driving down the field, and I expect more aggressive play calling in the red zone. Campbell should be able to distribute the ball to everyone, and Portis galloping over 100 yards and his first TD of the season. Redskins 20 Lions 14 |

Re: Game Preview: Redskins @ Lions
After seeing Tebow get taken out of the stadium in an ambulance, the only thing that could make my weekend worse would be a loss to Detroit. I'm really hoping we come out sharp.
I'm looking for a shutdown performance from our defense, complete with a handful of sacks and a few turnovers.

Sike! He's going to get his. Only the Skins use that BS bracket coverage excuse.

Re: Game Preview: Redskins @ Lions
For what it's worth.
From Sportsline.com - Week 3 Fantasy Football Matchups: This matchup isn't as easy as it looks for the Redskins, whose offense has been non-existent thus far. One problem: They're not utilizing their receivers properly, something they might be able to fix this week. The Lions' secondary was shredded by the Saints and chewed up by the Vikings, so there are no excuses for the Redskins. Clinton Portis should lead the charge, but the Redskins can loosen up the Lions' defense by quick-hitting passes to Santana Moss and down the middle to Chris Cooley. Even the mostly invisible Malcolm Kelly could find a favorable matchup and deliver some stats. But the Lions have been playing aggressively and might bring a decent pass rush to Jason Campbell, which hurts his upside. The Lions also have a tough matchup as the Redskins have been doing well against the pass. Calvin Johnson should see double coverage for much of the game, and that means Matthew Stafford will have to rely on his other receivers. If Detroit comes out with a heavy dose of Kevin Smith, much like they've done in its first two games, they could control the clock some and move the chains, both of which will go a long way toward clinching their first win since 2007.

I think it would serve the Skins well to get up early on Detroit so the Lions start thinking "Oh no, here we go again!". If the Skins make the mistake of letting them stay in the game too long, this could be a another nail-biter. |
