if al davis is sniffing super glue and see's dhb run a sick forty time and drafts him about 20 spots early and throws everyone off, and then the bills take maybin ahead of orakpo, if you don't take orakpo then you better join in with davis and the super glue sniffing cause orakpo was definitely top ten talent

I dont mean to be a buzz-kill, but almost every sack ive seen of carter happens with some situation where the qb runs into him or has to hold on to it for a long time. And he has been playing against shitty talent.
keep in mind that since I decided the season is over, I only watch about half of every game and have only seen about 4 of his sacks.

Re: Brian Orakpo = Beast

Yeppers Orakpo gets mad props for taking the position change in stride and quickly making an impact in unfamiliar territory. His raw physical ability might be unparalleled in the league.

But for eff sakes let's not make Vinny into a "swell guy" for this. In fact the mere mention of Vinny alongside Rak is pretty silly. Vinny tried to get Sanchez, then tried to trade up again, this time supposedly for Rak, when Lord knows we're so limited in picks. And finally Vinny did nothing to address the real need of the last few years along the oline. Look at Oher tonight. He's legit. Setting up a pick trade where we got Oher in the first and then another quality olineman or DE/LB in the 2nd would be noteworthy as GM. Unfortunately Vinny has working relationships with approximately zero guys around the league to work such a deal, so he did the only thing left to him and picked the obvious BPA.

I don't care how you slice, 8 sacks isn't some fluke. Dude is having a very good year. I would also add he's been a monster against the run pursuing running backs from sideline to sideline.

Carter and Orakpo are beginning to be a very good combo. Can't wait to see them against Romo on Sunday. Should be a treat.

For sure. He's done really well as an SLB considering he's playing a new position at the highest level, but I can't help but wonder how he'd be doing as a full time DE. I think his liabilities in coverage as an OLB are about the same as his liabilities against the run as a DE. But as a full time DE, he'd get a lot more opportunities to get pressure.

Regardless, I'm thrilled he's wearing burgundy and gold.

Re: Brian Orakpo = Beast

Come on now - sure Orakpo has a couple of sacks -- but our defense still gives up 3rd downs and big rushing and passing plays.

I like him and I do agree he's a beast. But echo'ing the other guys on this thread:
1) He's playing next to Carter and AH, inflating his numbers.
2) Our need was the O-line. Oher would have been the smarter pick.

With Oher, our team could have been a playoff contender this year. We lost THREE games to the worst teams in football because we couldn't pass or run block and our O-line was a mess. I think our defense would still have been top 10 WITHOUT Orakpo, but our offense sucks without an offensive line.

Anyway, I'm hoping this new combination with Levi Jones will solidify the line and help the run game & offense for the rest of the year (although I'm halfheartedly hoping for a good draft pick as well for a QB)..

orakpo was a must take at that position he should have been in the top ten

what about our remaining picks thoos should have been used for an oline instead we got barnes, glenn, and hensen, the only oline we got undrafted guys from md again

and why didn't we go after levi in the offseason instead of waiting he could have helped out alot earlier in the year

Assuming Carter stays for next season, do you think it would be viable to have Orakpo line up opposite Carter? Have Orakpo play DE? Everyone's saying he'd be beast coming off the edge like that instead of LB. Because.. Well.. We know he stinks at coverage anyway. So why not let him blow up O-Lines all day?

I personally think it would be a mistake to make him one thing or the other. I would just like to see him play where we have him right now, just better. He's a great athlete with a great work ethic. We just might have a different animal in Orakpo.

That being said, I think/hope Carter stays. Is he a FA next year?

Re: Brian Orakpo = Beast

Cant make everyone happy, all we heard last yr was we get no pressure. We go out and draft one of the best passrushers in the draft and ppl still bit&h.

I thought you guys wanted a defense like the Steelers? Thats all that was being said last yr and during the offseason. IF we had their defense we could win because the offense would get the ball more, well guys if you look at their D it is filled with 1st round picks. And yes their Oline is neglected as a result also.
