Re: Portis cleared to participate in offseason workouts, Rogers will be there as well
Obviously he considers Portis a leader, they both know each other well and know what to expect. Everybody's going to be on board initially to make that first impression, that includes Carlos and Landry as well. They've all undoubtedly gotten the message.

Fair enough. Either way, it should be used as a motivator.

I'd love to know what program that was. Because last season his program looked like it consisted of Jolly Pirate Donuts. Man was he out of shape

I think, or lets say I hope, that a lot of these guys will be using it as motivation on their own. If not they are not the type of guys I would want to keep. Yes, I do agree that it should be kept fresh in their minds as well as being the bottom dwellers of the NFC East for too long.

1 - We have an "old" guy who a) is familiar with the coach, b) is on the right side of 30, c) proven his effectiveness in the past. 2 - There is a glut on the market of backs in the 29+ age range, so there is no trade market for a back who may be developing concussion issues 3 - We can pick up a quality, but old, vet who could step in if CP doesn't step up and practice and tow the line of a locker room leader, or at least not a problem child 4 - In April, if we can pick up some additional picks, or if the 4th round has one of our RB top prospects, than we will take a RB at that point. The team goal is to improve the talent, coaching and player effectiveness. Shorting ourselves because CP didn't thrive in our former system doesn't accomplish any of that |

This is off-subject a bit but I think the best comment came at the end of the interview.
JC was out on the preactice field watching the coaches. You can question his FB ability all day, I do, but his character is All-Pro. |

Re: Portis cleared to participate in offseason workouts, Rogers will be there as well
so you wanted to get rid of CP when he was 27-28, but Philly kept BW till he was 30, with concussions and all. Got it, no bias, no preconceived Skins hate. CP rushed for 1400 yds last year, don't think that was keeping him to long. This past year VC/Zorn were ineffective EVERYONE knows that. Shanahan is giving him the benefit of doubt and letting him prove himself.

I think the timing of his effective year was just unfortunate, perfectly placed between two years where he was useless to us as a runner. If he had produced consecutive seasons with no big runs, he probably wouldn't have made it this far. But because of the small hope that he'll rebound this year, it seems we're kind of stuck with him, for at least one more year.

Re: Portis cleared to participate in offseason workouts, Rogers will be there as well
CP's getting up there carries-wise. That's why any rational person would worry about him tanking. Once RBs go over 2300 carries, it's just almost guaranteed they're done. LT couldn't escape it, Fred Taylor couldn't escape it, and Portis is going to follow them. His speed is already no longer elite. He's got bone spurs, etc.
