Re: why no extension?
The only thing I can think of is that McNabb is asking for a whole lot more than Allen is willing to pay. He is due around 11M this year, and as a top ten QB, it can be expected he will want at least a 4-5yr deal worth a minimum of 50M with a bonus and guaranteed dollars in the 15-25M range. Manning is going to get 20M per, and Brady is looking for a similar contract so McNabb is going to want a huge deal as well.

Re: why no extension?
This thread seems to be filled with a bunch of very young newcomers to football who have no idea who Bruce Allen is or who Mike Shanahan is. Oh they have the heard the names or whatever, but these young guys who are complaining that the Redskins should not have paid a HEFTY price for an ALL PRO quarterback and that McNabb is going to walk after this season....GEEEEEESH. Give me a break.
Bruce Allen...more knowledge and experience in his football family than most coaches will amass in a lifetime. Mike Shanahan...several S.B. rings but MORE important, a quarterback guru. And if thats not enought he brought his son with him who directed the NUMBER 1 passing attack in the NFL last season. Don't complain about something that you don't understand. Its waaaaaaaaay over your head so just sit back and accept that the past does not equal the present, and Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan do not equal Vinnie Cerrato and Jim Zorn. These guys do not let the fans or the owners whims run the franchise anymore. It is now in capable hands and this you will see. |

Actually as of right now, McNabb is an unrestricted free agent after this season which makes signing him so important. If he plays this year, takes a lot of hits and the team doesn't look remotely competitive, what's his incentive on seeing it out with our franchise when there's teams like the Vikings who are Super Bowl ready with a standout QB. To boot the CBA doesn't have any rules on player tags beyond the 2010 season so we will need to see what happens with that before any real scenarios take place. BTW, this site functions as a forum of fan discussion. If you're put out by simple assertions from the fans perhaps you've cut your teeth on the wrong board.

You have seemed really bitter lately though. I mean I get not having unbridled hopes but you're all doom and gloom right now it seems. I haven't seen a post from you in awhile that credits even one unit, much less side of the ball or whatever. btw and offtopic, you guys set a date yet? |

I'm not saying we won't have him signed, especially with the proclivity of Snyder to spend cash, but the fact that we don't have him signed yet. That really should have been figured out before the trade was executed. I don't think McNabb should have a period of time to debate a resigning. If he picked us then stipulate that when the trade is transacted and make his extension contingent on it. I just mentioned that if I was McNabb I would put the contract extension on ice and see how this season plays out. If the Skins did poorly I wouldn't stick around to see it through. McNabb certainly isn't playing for money at this point in his career so there are teams out there that he'd want to help to a Super Bowl immediately. Not bitter, just waiting for our liabilities to be addressed...it's been 2 years straight in which we've made major additions to places other than OL, all the while it being our major liability. Not one high draft pick traded or selected has been done anything about it.

Re: why no extension?
The trade happened pretty quick and seemed to take the Redskins off guard a bit. A deal will get done, honestly I don't even see where it's a concern.

Re: why no extension?
Nice man, hang in there.
Yeah, if we don't have our OL settled by July or so I'll start getting nervous. Who knows if someone from some team goes down and we ship a guy off in a trade that involves someone or whatever the case may be. I mean we can't have 5 all-stars on the line, not that we really even have 1 right now, but we'll just have to accept that we're probably looking at most of what we'll have. As long as we get the LT situation figured out I think that we'll be mostly okay, though McNabb will probably be rolling right quite a bit, though they'll probably allow the rusher more on the inside in those cases. I'd really like to solidify the other end but I think having Dockery and Rabach will be solid enough in those spots. Then if Big Mike, Hicks, whoever can handle the RG spot we'll be okay, even if it's a bit by committee, can't forget Rinehart either. |

PostBroncos $$$ RT @Adam_Schefter: Marshall reaches agreement with Dolphins on four-year, $47.5 million extension, including $24 million guaranteed. Marshall can apparently reach an ageement within 24 hours and I don't think anyone thought he was going to be easy to bargain with. If the Skins want McNabb to be their guy, they should sign him up and get it done with. Now maybe they are waiting for the draft and how JC's situation shakes out, but once they decided to bring McNabb in, the contract ought get done sooner rather than later |
