Oh yeah, I've heard all the stories about "Reid wanting to do right by McNabb". But the truth to the matter is McNabb adamantly stated he would not be traded to Buffalo or Oakland. The reason he was in the drivers seat on this one was he only had one year left on his current contract in Philly. And the acquiring team would need to renegotiate that in to an extension. All McNabb had to do if traded to Buffalo or Oakland, is not agree to terms, hence the trade would be nullified and he is back in Philly.

So McNabb did have a say in where he went.

And if he really was concerned about McNabb going to a division rival, he would have just not traded him at all.
Right, pretty much what I said above.

Reid had to trade him, he hand was forced by the front office. With one year left on his deal they weren't going to give him a new contract with Kolb behind him.

To say that Reid isn't concerned with playing against McNabb, especially paired with Shanahan, is just a little silly.

Actually the last 2 years 2008-2009 together are his most productive years. So (42%) really tells no tale at all. If it tells anything it is that he's getting better.

You're (as usual) definitely off on your last point. Reid stated he would have preferred to trade Kolb and keep McNabb.

besides, Andy Reid is overrated. terrible clock management and playcalling. he's just not a good in-game coach. i'd say he's more to blame for Philly never getting over the hump than McNabb. and now he's hitching his wagon (albeit with load-levellers) to a Kolb, who had all of 2 good games, one in a shootout with the Saints while the eagles were trailing (he still threw 2 picks and they still lost) and one against the chiefs. i realize they've seen him in camp/preseason/practice for a few years and think he's the real deal, but i'm not sold on him. might be Matt Cassell 2.0.

Actually the bolded line is completely wrong. McNabb had 1 year left on his contract, so if they traded him, he would have had to go or retire, either way the trade would not be automatically nullified. Just as if we don't extend McNabb, he is still obligated to play this year for us or retire, no nullification would occur.
BUT, as Matty said, Reid has a good relationship and did not want to ship him off to distant lands (although he might have if the compensation was right) so he shopped him here. I also think that the FO said they weren't carrying all 3, and they were keeping Kolb, so choose McNabb or Vick, and they weren't getting a second let alone a second and a 3/4 for Vick, so cya McNabb.

While this is true, what team wants to give up a 2nd+ for a 1 year rental? So McNabb did kind of have it in his hands, unless a team was stupid or the Eagles got desperate to move him and accepted less.

True, and I didn't mean to imply that making the trade would be easy or possible. I only was saying that IF the Eagles made a trade to the Raiders then Donovan's only choices would be play for Oakland or retire. He could not say no, have the trade nullified, and go back and play for the Eagles again.

You were probably blinded by the unnecessary and repetitive Colt Brennan threads.
