Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

Forget Davis and Cooley -- we have ANOTHER tight end on our roster..

Quote:
-- Selvish Capers could have been a tight end.

As a kid in Louisiana, the rookie right tackle modeled himself after Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez. He was a three-year starter on his basketball team, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound leaper with self-described "great" hands and a nose for the end zone.

But after he arrived at West Virginia, he started adding weight. He also realized the Mountaineers' offense wasn't dialing up a lot of plays for the tight ends. Coaches suggested he change positions, and he agreed, at first reluctantly.

He said he has a 32-inch vertical and can still put down windmill dunks. And he said he'll change his body type once football ends.

"I never really tried to gain weight, it just happened," said Capers, whom the team lists at 6-4 and 308 pounds. "I don't know where it goes, to be honest. A lot of people say I've got all the weight in my legs. I don't even really know."

When he was at West Virginia, Capers told reporters that "I still watch the tight ends and think to myself, 'I can do that.' " So I asked whether he'd drop that message on Mike Shanahan's desk.

"No, indeed not," he said. "I've got to tell them I'm gonna block first and get that down pat, and then maybe we can discuss it."

Maybe it'll work out, we have a smart Offensive Coordinator but my moneys on Davis being mediocre.

Thanks 53, I'm doing my best.
That's fine. A turtle and spinach can both be dark green but that doesn't mean that they're both going to turn into crime fighting ninjas if they get ooze on them.

Can't wait for the season to start to see how both TE's play. I'm glad we have both of them!

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

I'm NOT happy to have both of them. I would have been much happier to have Cooley and some awesome Center or RG or LB or RB instead.

But now that we have them, I'm hoping that Shanahan finally actually uses two TE sets (and our O-line holds up without a blocking TE so that McNabb doesn't have to fight for his life). If that works, then yes, two top tier TE's is good. But at the end of the day I'm always going to say that I'm sad that we have two great TEs -- instead of a great TE and something else.

And its a misconception that Zorn didn't run double TE sets.
But, Zorn often didn't pass to the TEs from those sets and in general Zorn's passing game as a whole was ineffective, based on the uptick in performance when Bingo Lewis took over.

But here are some of the types of double TE passing sets and play's i'm look ing forward to:

Nice footage of Daniels. Well, the good news is we now have a QB that can have the vision and actually make most of those throws. Campbell has an arm but just didn't have vision. Then again, his vision was limited to the turf as DE's flew past Heyer....

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

watched the texans colts replay on nfl network last night. while schaub did things i havent seen a skins qb do since todd collins came in 3 years ago (deliver the ball on time in tight coverage), that offense and the routes they were running really opened up room for each other.

it was amazing to see how a finely tuned team can execute a well designed offense.
