It's always easy to change your entire defensive gameplan....mid-game :frusty:

Instead of blaming just the D, how about asking why the O didn't produce crap but 3 pts. after the 1st qtr.

This team is not very good right now. We had folks on this board predicting an Filthadelphia blowout, we should be thankful for this win and hope as the season progresses we improve.

Did anyone else besides me almost have a STROKE on the last play of the game?
The answer to your question is because Kolb is an unknown. Last week Sam Bradford was certainly not known as a big play quarterback but he was extremely effective against our blitzes because he knew they were coming.

Granted Kolb was effective towards the end but when you have an unknown like Kolb you don't blitz, especially not when you have big play receivers like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin out there. Did you not notice how they were shutdown? In the end we gave up 12 poins and we won. Much improved over blitzing Bradford all last game and we gave up 30 and we lost.

What happened if we blitzed and he got it out there quick and Jackson beat our secondary for a touchdown? Would you be on here questioning the blitz?

Btw the Skins did blitz 5 on one play, and the result was an incomplete pass. So we did blitz him once. Idk if you've been watching the past two weeks but everybody and their mothers knew Jim Haslett was blitzing and that's why the Texans and Rams were so effective against us. If Kolb did his work this past week I'm sure he was prepared to be heavily blitzed even though he knew he wasn't starting.

Who cares? We won. Would you have been happier if we blitzed our brains out and Avant held that Hail Mary on the last play?

What keeps drives alive is allowing 3rd and 10 completions. Our D HAS to get better at stopping 3rd down and long situations.

Agree with the comment that Jackson or Maklin would have burned us if we blitzed. I mean I guess we could have thrown one or two in, but the team defensively just isn't that good.

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over

I guess I just never been big on giving a QB time on 3rd and 11. I want drives to end so we get the ball back and add to the lead.

My point is when kolb frst entered the game he had no confidence so why not keep him feeling that way and go after him? He was able to settle in and relax once h was able to dink and dunk and no longer looked scared.

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over

Philly beats you with big plays this year. We took that away and challenged them to beat us in another way. They got close. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Slingin Sammy has it right--the D was fine, but the dang O couldn't ice the game, AS USUAL!!!! That's where I was freaking out. We NEVER get that last first down to ice it and take a knee. We are always relying on our D to save our bacon at the end. How about, JUST ONCE, a first down to end it on offense?

The game should have ended when Torain got 7 on first down. Then it's two plays to get three yards and we take a knee. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO. False ****ing start. 2-8. Run gets two. Incomplete pass. We punt--LAMELY. Can we ever get a clutch ****ing punt???? And you want to blame it on the D, which took away philly's real weapons, a D which got TORCHED in the secondary in the first couple of games. Sure, the D can do more, no doubt. But that ending was not the Ds fault.

A huge win. But, man, we never make things easy, do we? A holding call and a dropped hail-Mary in our wins. But a win is a win is a win.

Well if Jim Haslett doesn't know how to disguise a blitz then he shouldn't be employed.

If you got about 21 from the miscues, you need to drop it by a touchdown at least. Cooley scored his touchdown on the same drive as the McNabb/Davis miscue.

That's a very simplistic view of it. And if Jim Haslett doesn't know how to disguise a blitz, you are right, I wouldn't want him coaching my team knowing how much he blitzes. But the 3-4 is supposed to be very effective at disguising the blitz because you don't know if it's the LOLB or the ROLB who's coming. You know the blitz is coming, but you don't know where. That's what the 3-4 provides.

Nobody said he has to blitz though. That worked in our favor tonight, because if Kolb expected us to blitz when he went in, well obviously we didn't, and we won because of it.

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over

I love how people just think crazy blitzing will solve all our woes. Blitzing makes thinks worst if you team D is not playing well as a unit. Ex. Houston game. Sure Kolb isn't playing that great right now, but if blitzes are coming in he has easier quick passes. Also the Philly oline is hurt and not playing well. I think we got pretty good pressure with 4 rushing. Go back and watch the film but there were about 10 more holds on Rack that were never called and Fat Al was actually drawing some double teams.

End result: 12 points. Against one of the better offenses in the NFL, that is a huge success. Our team has improved quite a bit. We would have lost this and the Dallas game last year, and I doubt we would have made the Texans earn a W. Teams rarely go from 4-12 to legitimate contenders overnight. We are taking the right steps.

Now just calm down.
