Re: ESPNDallas: Cowboys Have Lowered The Bar
Gurode is the bigger loss, they don't have a backup center and would have to move their starting RG over. I can't believe how many parallels you can find between the Skins of last year and Cowboys this year. They have put up better stats that's for sure, but so many things there are just outta whack. I hope JJ sees the stats and refuses to back out from his position.

You cannot make losing easy or acceptable, which is what I believe Phillips has done. He has created a culture at Valley Ranch in which he insulates everybody from criticism, never singles anybody out for blame, refuses to hold players accountable and has convinced his team that the media is the cause of any problems. When Leonard Davis admitted he is at fault for playing badly and was deservedly, albeit belatedly, benched, Phillips soothed him with praise, referring to him as a Pro Bowl player and returning him to his starting job. |

Yeah how about the part about certain star players not being available for post game interviews after a L? Accountability is apparently very overrated there.

Re: Redskins
Well realistically, the 3 SB rings were a carry over effect, and Jimmy Johnson had a LOT to do with them. I would think not having a playoff win for 14 or 15 (or whatever it was) would represent getting worse under JJ also. He doesn't see that because of his very early success. If one good thing came out of the last decade it was the (hopefully permanent) realization by DS that a football team is better off run by professionals and not the owner.

Re: ESPNDallas: Cowboys Have Lowered The Bar
As much as I hate the Cowboys, and I do enjoy seeing them getting criticized by the media (for once), it is unfortunately early in the season and any team can turn it around. I will be much happier when they are 1-9 or 2-8 and well out of playoff contention.

Re: ESPNDallas: Cowboys Have Lowered The Bar
Ed Werner makes some points but is really writing this from his own selfish perspective. To him the heroes are the guys who talk to him, and allow him to get more material for his articles? That's a dumb way to judge which players from the Cowboys have their heads on straight and which ones don't.
It doesn't matter if you shy from the media IMO, just perform.

Re: ESPNDallas: Cowboys Have Lowered The Bar
I'm not really sure about the "good ol days" angle of the article. Were things really better under Parcells? They made the postseason twice, went 0-2, and failed to win the division.
Parcells contributed because he put legitimate offensive talent on the roster without a lot of high picks. But Wade has arguably contributed more by developing that first round defensive talent that was ticketed for bust-city. You can compare their records: Parcells' "accountability" didn't bring Dallas any more wins than Wade's "aw-shucks" attitude.

Re: ESPNDallas: Cowboys Have Lowered The Bar
The Cowboys suck because Romo sucks. Romo sucks because their offensive line sucks. Their offensive line sucks because their coaching sucks. Their coaching sucks because Jerry Jones sucks. Cowboys suck.
