Re: Mo' snow on the way

Not too much fun here in central Maryland. We got about 10'' in Columbia, and it's all ready heavy, wet snow so it was a pain in the ass clearing off my car. The weirdest part driving home yesterday at around 4 (thankfully I left work before it got really bad) was that there was freezing rain and lightning! Strange stuff.

On the way in this morning the highways were littered with abandoned cars and while the plows got most of the snow off the roads they weren't really able to get the icy crap underneath up, especially on the exit ramps. I really should have just worked from home today.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

It was snowing 2 to 3 inches an hour in Winchester when i left work yesterday at 3pm. Our company closed early.

Snowed until about midnight, and at my house i had just under a foot when i went outside this morning. We are getting off early again today, and i'll be going home to plow snow with our Arctic cat and then go see if i can't take the wife sledding or what not.

We have an old car hood that has an old school bus seat welded to it to pull behind the 4 wheeler. Great fun.

That sounds like fun. We use an old VW hood in Tappahannock (sp) when I was there for a snow storm and it worked great.

My grandfather lives near Tappahannock. Weird to see somebody else name that town because it's so damn tiny.

This winter is pissing me off. 15 inches here in Philly.

Had 11 inches last EVENING. Yes, just in the evening, dumped over 2" an hour.

Great workouts though. Lifted weights, then shoveled 3 times.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

Where I lived didn't get much snow, but getting home was a complete bitch yesterday. My new job has me training up in Fairfax where Route 50 meets 123 and I have to take 123 all the way from there down to Woodbridge where my house is, and it took me over 2 hours to make that normally 35-40 minute drive yesterday. I was one of the lucky ones though, I got out like 10 minutes after the rain turned into a heavy snow and I was lucky to make it home, I was watching the news last night and people were stranded all over the DMV and there was plenty of power outages as usual.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this though but Prince William County's roads were so much better than Fairfax. In Fairfax the roads were slick as hell, I had no traction for the majority of the drive, and the salt trucks couldn't do anything because there were people driving right behind them as they were plowing and laying down salt. In PWC there was practically no snow on the roads though, it was all slush. I noticed an immediate improvement as I crossed the bridge on 123 from Fairfax to the PWC side.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

Supposedly got 20 inches here in NYC. Without a car anymore though, I'm totally oblivious to snowfall. I don't have to worry about bad traffic conditions, starting a a cold car, wiping snow off the roof and windshield

8 inches or so here in Central Maryland. No power for almost 4 hours last night. My source of entertainment after putting the kids to bed was watching the snow plow clear our street. Amazing how tiring it is when it's night and you have no electricity. Your urge to sleep increases tenfold.

Took my Dad over 4 hours to go 15 miles on 270. Then my neighbor took about 9 hours to get from Hyattsville to the south side of Frederick, including a trip northbound on southbound 270. Cars left abandoned on a major highway, people need to have some sense to try and at least get/push the car to the side of the road. I know the gas stations lining 270 made bank yesterday with all the cars having to pull off the highway for gas.

100% agree! I almost hit an abandoned car on 100 this morning. It was right at a curve so as I approached it I thought it was off to the shoulder. Luckily I realized it was actually completely in the left lane and there was no one behind me or else I could have been in big trouble.

It's days like this when I REALLY regret not becoming a teacher!

Re: Mo' snow on the way

I'm sick of this snow. Right now I'm home in bed with a back pain because of all this shoveling. Ugh, now I know why old people move to Florida.

Re: Mo' snow on the way

Here is the thing with abandoned cars, how can you move them to the shoulder if the snow is physically too high to drive into?
