Re: Smoot Doesn't Lay The Smack Down (Mooby Does) (Redskins V. Cardinals)
If we stall out in the redzone against Dallas, we will get slaughtered. We wont be able to keep up with their offense.

Cofield was one on one with Sendlein a lot in the first half in pass rush, and never really made an impact.

When I looked at the stat sheet, Cofield was the only Dlineman with a tackle. Also, I think time of possession was somewhat of a factor. We nearly doubled their TOP.

Although NTs are not supposed to be flashy on a 3-4, I do agree with you that Cofield has looked very average. I'd be curious to see what the folks that review the games can say about his play. I just hated seeing getting manhandled by the Giants' rookie center last week.

Well I approached Smoot and Scud week after week and said "dudes you got put an R or a TM at the end of your thread title." And they were like "dude no way" and I was like "but DUDE you got to protect your brand."
Why do you think Coke sends hit squads to peoples houses that are ruining their business?

I agree completely, sometimes you gotta give credit to the other teams play caller.

If it felt like Cofield did little in this game, thats partially because he didn't play a whole lot.
But Arizona could pass as much as they wanted as long as they could block him one on one.

The truth, in my opinion, is because the onus was on the Cardinals offense to change its approach, the Redskins needed to have more than a 3 point lead at half and kicking off based on the way they dominated. It's too easy to go in at half and find one thing about the defense you can attack. The Cardinals did win the halftime adjustments, but that's to be expected when the Redskins were utterly schematically dominant in the first half. The only place to go for the Cards coaches was up, despite the score.

Hightower isn't as good in pass protection as we've all been lead to believe. He's adequate at best, but he doesn't exactly go and stick people.

Re: Smoot Doesn't Lay The Smack Down (Mooby Does) (Redskins V. Cardinals)
This is concerning me a little bit because I was never a believer in Cofield as our NT. I think he'd be a helluva DE, but not a NT. I hope he improves, because his job is to take on two blockers and allow our LBs to go for the kill. I think his performance has been disguised a bit by Haslett's scheming and the great pass rush created by Rak and Kerrigan.

Personally I think we are ok with Cofield as long as he steadly improves but once again, were playing NT unnaturally. |
