Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)

Two consecutive weeks the team did not appear to be prepared to play. Shanahan's responsibility is to get the team ready, they were not ready today and the Panthers took advantage. I give them credit. The negatives are always highlighted more in a loss than in a win. There were a few positives, just not enough.

Goat, I wouldn't say Plax is "killing it" Great game today, but before today he was doing no better than Gaffney

Word I was being unclear. On the bigger picture tho, I think anyone would argue Plax has the bigger upside than Gaffney or Stallworth, and if the Shanaplan was to give veterans plenty of action anyway why not get the big dog?

With Moss out are we gonna give the young guys more reps to develop? Or just see Gaffney and Stallworth on the field together more? It's back to the rebuild vs win now uncertainty. And I realize I'm painting this picture too black and white because certainly we can try for "balance" and play rookies alongside vets, but then let's get the best damn vets out there.

T Owens would be the best active WR on the roster (assuming his knee is basically healed) if we signed him tomorrow...just saying.

Hey, FWIW.
Hate to come in here and go all negative on your insight, but he was blown out of the play on the sack of Beck on fourth down. With that said though, the rest of the time he played good.

I'm going to single out the receiving cast here. 1 for putting in a clearly not ready Hank at the end of the game, and 2 for any receiver who dropped a pass or made a bad play today. Way to let down your qb who hasn't played a reg. Season game since 2007.

Also agreed on the defense. Poor tackling, horrible second half adjustments by Haslett, and that loser Kevin Barnes. Very uninspiring play today. Props to Fletch for ballin even though he was very sick.

Hmm, that's what I get for listening to Trevor Matich.

this oddly sounds like 2010......I am not saying fire Shanny but great coaches do not lose 2 straight after a bye week!

I don't really know what's going on around the league after bye weeks. But I wonder how the new CBA rule that mandates four consecutive days off during a bye week is impacting things

How many Belichick have without Tom Brady? How many did Bill Walsh have without Montana and Young? How many did Tony Dungy have without Peyton Manning?

Shanahan a "great" coach? Perhaps, perhaps not. But was he the best available option after the Jim Zorn debacle?

I'd give that a "hell yeah."

I think you may be underrating the supply of guys who can coach a team at a high level. I think supply vastly exceeds demand.

Well, you can be 'not a great coach' and still not deserve to be fired. Whether you can tell everyone that you're staking your reputation on this years team, have that team not perform, and still not deserve to be fired? That's less clear to me.
