Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
2.5 million is a lot to pay for this guy; we need the help, but I can't help thinking there are unsigned, undrafted players out there with a lot of upside who have two fully functional knees and who wouldn't command $2.5 million.

Can't be any worse at SS/FS than Reed (The Witness) Douty, or DeJon (They're Gone, Gone) Gomes.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
As long as we get the other Griffin too, I'm OK with this... he had a pretty decent year last year, despite recovering from the ACLs. I don't think this rules out of the Ross market either, even though I think he (Griffin) is a better CB.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Very true! I'll give Gomes the benefit of the doubt, he was only 21 years old.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
The Montgomery restructure and Griffin deal create a net cap difference of virtually zero. If you want the math, it's:
cap = 6.5 million - 2.5 mil (player salary) + 390k (r51) + 2.06 (Monty restructure) = 6.45 million That 6.5 was a rough estimate, but the work shows how today the Redskins didn't change their cap position in 2012 (and only slightly in 2013).

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
No D Hall I would say is a probability at this point. De angelo had some nice picks, but his mouth and soft coverage is detrimental. I like what we are doing in FA thus far. Very nice. I still wish we didn't have to break the draft bank for RG III. Using FA and the draft to build would have sped our rebuilding up. It might be not til 2014 til we are really ready to tear up the NFC East.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Griffin sure looked like crap in that youtube video on the free agent thread. No way is this guy a potential started of anything....we need a legit #3 corner and #2 safety.
But I am way more concerned with Fletcher and oline....we can arguably support the oline with mid round picks, but we are likely running out of cash for free agents

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
He was coming off an injury, if he doesn't get better they didn't give up anything and can move on without him. I think he's he decent pickup.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
I'm more interested if they plan on using him as a safety. If that's the case and he stays healthy this could end up paying off.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Word! I like the signing, he was a solid player that had 2 acl tears unfortunately, takes a while to come back from that, he should be more healthy this year. And he is a DB that can possibly play safety for our team! I like it. I want Aaron Ross too if at all possible.

Re: Redskins Sign DB Cedric Griffin
Even safties that are moved to CB don't look as bad as he did in that video.
