Re: Samari Rolle??
Smoot is 26, Rolle is 28 I think.

Re: Samari Rolle??
Ahh OK, then not so bad. I still am clinging to hopes Smoot will stay but it's not looking good unless all this is is rhetoric.

Re: Samari Rolle??
I really don't get this move. What happened to keeping our core guys?

Re: Samari Rolle??
For real. Of all of the off-season happenings (with the exception of Coles), this move is making the least sense.

Re: Samari Rolle??
If we can give Samari Rolle a 15 million signing bonus, then why can't we give Smoot the same? If not, at least offer him 13 million or something. Theres gotta be more to this. Either Smoot is asking for an insane bonus, or the Defensive Coaches feel like they're better off with Rolle instead of Smoot.
I still don't get it, and probably won't until next season. If Rolle comes in has a Pro Bowl year, then I won't complain. |

Re: Samari Rolle??
Hell, if we're going to go with this approach we might as well try and get John Abraham, Mushin Muhammed and more. I mean of course the Redskins would be better off with THESE players so why aren't we going after them. :P
I mean seriously why do an "apples for apples" trade unless someone is doing some seriously shading dealings. I feel like the Redskins are trying to screw Smoot.

Re: Samari Rolle??
I can't get enough how the "team leaders" get treated on this team. Again, it's sending a TERRIBLE message to the team and the rest of the league.

Thats exactly what I'm thinking. I wonder what kind of bonus Smoot is looking for? 16 million? Or the coaches feel like all hes worth is a 10-12 million dollar signing bonus. |

Re: Samari Rolle??
If that's the case I would agree with Williams' assessment. I would hate to see him acting like that, just as I would hate to see the Redskins letting 1-2 million get in the way of retaining Smoot. I wish we had some more details on the talks.

Re: Samari Rolle??
You know, hearing the terms "locker-room leader," "team leader," and "a guy who the players look up to" are starting to become cliches, and it's getting a little old.
How do any of us know what a player's "locker-room presence" is? The only team leader any organization should have is the head coach. The guy everyone should 'look up to' is Joe Gibbs. Let's face it. If the role of "locker-room leader" is so vital to a team's success, then judging by the W/L records our organization has generated over the last four years doesn't say much for our "team leaders". |

Re: Samari Rolle??
Granted, not everyone can live on the fact they "try hard" and are "a team player," BUT if a person is to be based on one extreme or another (pure talent) then the faults are almost as equal. Coles has great talent and right now he is not being a "team player." I don't see how anyone can say that is not important.

The Patriots are a perfect example.

Re: Samari Rolle??
The Eagles are basically the Anti-Patriots. They show that having a lot of talent won't necessarily transfer into a Super Bowl victory.
