Is that any safer? I've played on field turf before and being the world class athlete that I am, I can say it's not too bad. You do get the rubber pellets everywhere though.

Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
I played on the old astroturf and have walked on Field Turf. IMO they are two different animals. Astroturf was a green covering over concrete and was terrible. Field Turf has much more give to it.

One of the arguments I hate the most is, it was that way back in the day so it will be fine to continue with. It really makes no sense to me, things evolve. I don't necessarily think it has to be field turf, but I would think that would be better with these hellish winters the dc area has seen as of late. Regardless something needs to and will be done. But to say its just fine as is and tough it up seems kinda ludicrous.
For me as a fan I enjoy a completely level playing field with conditions at the best when watching games. It's fun to watch a sloppy game every now and then. But I'll take a good well matched game with the only advantage being location any day of the week.

Just put domes in every NFL city.
End of story. Then they can just rotate the super bowl in alphabetical order and stop this bidding crap.

Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
The NFL has been a safety oriented league for some time now. Under Roger Goodell's leadership, reforms within the NFL have come at a blazing rate, and now, the NFL is eyeing another way to improve player safety on the field.
According to Clark Judge of CBS Sports, the NFL will be "more proactive" when deciding if a field needs to be re-sod. The current rule is rather decentralized. Every individual team determines whether their playing surface is safe enough to play on, and the league has no particular responsibility in approving such determinations. “Going forward, we’re going to be much more proactive about making sure we, at the league level, make determinations, particularly with natural surfaces, later in the year subject to weather factors,” Ray Anderson, the NFL's vice president of football operations said. “We must be more attentive and more assertive about when certain standards or re-soding or maintenance needs to be redone.” While the specifics of what exactly "more proactive" mean aren't clear, it seems as if the NFL will simply try to push teams towards re-soding their fields if the playing surface becomes questionable. If that doesn't work, look for the NFL to push for a centralized method of determining when to re-sod fields. This is a policy that should have been introduced years ago, and it probably doesn't go far enough in its effort to improve player safety. There's no doubt that the high-profile injury to Robert Griffin III, which was largely blamed on the playing surface's poor quality, pushed the league towards more oversight in the matter, and hopefully playing surfaces will be held to a higher standard moving forward. NFL to be proactive about field quality |

Both have their pro's and con's. Can't say RGIII's injury happened because of the grass. Happened because he got lit up against the Ravens for not knowing when to get down. Or you could go further and say Shanahan not having the common sense to yank him when he was hobbling around on the field.

Yes, his initial injury happened in mid-air.

YAY! Big Government! First Reebok, then protecting the shield (player punishment with Dictator Goodell), and now Field maintenance. Pretty soon teams won't even be able to choose their own starting lineups...oh wait? Have you passed a calculus exam since your last concussion? No? Sorry you cannot play. In all seriousness I have no problems with these changes I just like to point out when a Republican falls victim to hypocrisy. Firstdown, I am taking a friendly jab at you and really intend no ill will. I'm bored and just felt like stirring the pot for some friendly banter. |

Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
Redskins G.M. Bruce Allen has said that field turf isn’t an option for FedEx Field in 2013.
However..... The fact that De Cocker was appearing on a radio station owned by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder suggests that the Redskins were aware De Cocker would be letting de cat out of de bag. Indeed, it would have been one hell of a coincidence if the station had booked a guy who lives in, you know, Belgium, to fill up time talking about a potential replacement surface at FedEx Field only to find out during the interview that, lo and behold, that company is talking to the Redskins about possibly replacing the surface at FedEx Field. |
