I really didn't want him back. He would have been an all pro each year in the 80's but with today's rules he is a liability.

Slightly above vet minimum, better then anything else on our roster currently. Why not.

Exactly! Look at our roster people and tell me we have a better safety ready to play. Outside of drafting or signing a lower level free agent (Neither of which are guaranteed to play better than Merriwether) we have nobody. For a reasonable price I'm glad he's back. He's definitely not the long term solution hit he can fill in for another year while we get our defense together. Eliminate the flags and he's not terrible.

If anything AT LEAST he's a presence in the secondary that receivers might fear, legal hits or not.

Who's to say that won't happen. All they did was re-sign him . They didn't anoint him the all-time starter. The starting job is there for the taking.
