Lots of head scratchers in that list. For example -Mario Manningham is rated as an A, while Riley Cooper is a C, and DJax is graded at a D?

That's just ridiculous.

DJax is going to kick ass this season. RG3 is going to love the deep ball, and Morris will have a career year.

At the end of the day, who cares about some stupid rankings some nobody grades it as.

I know Denver and New England are respected franchises, but to me their FA signings are basically the types of signings that our team used to make under Vinny. Overpaying for stars past their primes.

He's right about Lavuao, and perhaps Porter too, unless he starts and plays better than Josh Wilson. But he's just plain wrong about overpaying for Hatcher. First of all, he's not a normal 32 year old, as he should have a number of good years left; second, the contract has no guaranteed money after this year, and the Redskins will be able to escape the deal easily in a couple of years. Sports Illustrated gave this signing an A-. And on Chris Baker, he looked at the salary and then directly at what Baker's done, instead of at looking at how he finished last year, and what he's projected to do this season. I wonder why he didn't talk about the biggest signing of them all? Maybe because he actually liked it and knew that wouldn't go well with the troll theme?

Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

In terms of raw value per dollar spent, they probably deserve a C or D, but I'm okay with some inefficient spending if the team can improve itself at need positions. Given how inept that the pass rush by the DL was last year, and how much the receivers struggled to get open, and that they were able to retain all the players they wanted to, I'm willing to give a solid B.

If there was a way to fix all of those needs without inefficient free agent spending, I'd grade a little harder, but they really had to make some major changes and don't have a first round pick to bank on. Taking a pair of risks on Hatcher and Jackson while hoping for the best seems more reasonable than trying to take the same team into next year and just trying to survive.

F - they failed to address FS or RT which were the two biggest needs and positions I do not think you can plug-in a 2nd or 3rd round rookie to start right away.

Of course I love the idea of what D jax can bring to the field but i did not think we needed him .. at all. its like buying a spoiler for our banged up 1998 honda civic.

biggest FA addition imo is a healthy RG3. if he is healthy, its lights out on our comp.

Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

I give them a B+/A-. They've treated free agency just like it should be for a 3 win team. Hatcher, Roberts, Jackson and Porter are all very solid moves. All of those guys make the team better. The linemen from Cleveland and the LB from Houston are kind of wait and see, didn't really like the Clark signing. The rest of them were for depth and teams. What I like is they're not trying to build a team with free agents, but make solid improvements. The Jackson deal was icing on the cake. So far so good.

Do you think overpaying for Byrd was the way to go? I sure don't. I think we can find a RT with that 2nd round pick. We're probably going to struggle at safety again but we can't address everything.

Putting Jackson on the field opens up the entire offense. It gives Morris more room to operate. It gives Reed the middle of the field, Jackson does things that will not show up in the stat sheet. Of course keeping him happy is another story.

Sorry, I can't really agree with you on this. First of all, you can't look at free agency as being the primary way of building your team. The 'skins have been doing that for far too long. Free agency should be used as supplementing your roster and adding the occasional star if he should become available and the price is right. The draft is where this team needs to focus on building their team, and that's where they'll look to fill holes on the offensive line and the defensive secondary. I don't personally see anything wrong with that.

Re: Redskins free agent signings thread part II

Outside of Garcon who did we really have at WR??

Jackson filled a huge need and gives us a legit 1-2 combo. Add in a 3rd in Roberts and this WR group went from blah to having the potential to be one of the better groups in the league.
