Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .

I think the old RFK site is really the only option - all the other spots have significant drawbacks, and RFK just makes too much damn sense. As much as taxpayer financing upsets me (seriously, it's one of the more fucked things in our society), I'm sure it'll happen again here - especially when you have DC, MD & VA all competing for the new stadium. Of course, a move to DC would necessitate a name change - there's absolutely no getting around that - but I'm sure Snyder knows that and will leverage the name change for more gov't $. He knows it has to change eventually, he's just waiting for the biggest payday.

But all that aside, I feel like I actually might go to more than 1 game/season if it was in DC. It really just fucking sucks to go all the way out to Landover...metro access would be huge.

Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .

a dc councilman was on ESPN980.

he trashed loudoun county as an option, which pretty much tells me that the rumors of it going there are probably right

he also refused to use the word Redskins, calling them The Washington Football team, but when asked about it said that the name change shouldn't be part of the discussion about relocating the team. He said it would "... take care of itself" down the road.

IE: They want the tax revenue and businesses that would come from it but want to take a stand against the supposedly racist nickname.

I hope to god DC or MD doesn't get the stadium. They don't deserve the economic boost (according to the dc councilman) nor the tax revenue.

Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .

Thirteen years left on the lease and if they jump right away another 2 years to build , so what does Dan Snyder do with Fed Ex ,University of Maryland does'nt want it ,Navy nope , even the Danny can't carry two stadiums .
Meadowlands was in it's thirties before being rebuilt and used by two teams FedEx is 17 years young .

Redskins Have "Started Process" Of Designing New Stadium | NBC4 Washington
.

The Redskins currently play in Landover at FedEx Field, which opened in 1997. The Redskins' lease in Landover runs for another 13 years.

“We've already seen some preliminary drawings and I'm going to be very retro with it,” Snyder told CSN. “It's gonna feel like RFK. It's gonna move like RFK. I love that, I actually asked architectural firms to do it and they said that they can do it. I said that I think the lower bowl sections are going to want to rock the stadium like the old days.”

Snyder offered no timetable for when the proposal for a new stadium would be approve

Last time I checked, taxpayer financing happens a lot in new NFL stadiums deals. I'm not for the practice, but a lot of people sound like this is the first time they've heard about it.

It took JKC 10 years to get FedEx done. Would be surprised that they have a target date around the time the lease ends in Landover. I imagine this is all highly preliminary.

Not for the Met Life Stadium in NJ .

New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .

I'd like to see a 65k Max stadium. Keep it smaller and try and get some home field advantage again. Maybe design something along the lines of Seattle that is super acoustic. And the strongest wifi system imaginable.

He actually said the word Redskins several times, but kept referring to the team as the Washington football team. It was weird. I've come to the conclusion that it's just not racist enough. Even guys like Simms, who won't say it, will condone someone sitting right next to him saying it over and over again. If he truly thought it was racist, he wouldn't tolerate a work environment where he was surrounded by it. Wake me up when he actually turns to his broadcast partner and calls him a racist to his face.

Agree on the capacity and 100% chance Snyder is demanding it be acoustically set up to be the loudest stadium in the league.

And it Makes a lot of sense for a non-state like DC, which relies on citizens of Maryland and Virginia to come into the city to spend their hard earned dollars. 5 of the richest 10 counties in the country are within driving distance of DC. They will benefit from the disposal income from the surrounding suburbs.

Or maybe just a logo change. The word Redskin by itself is innocuous. I saw it on a menu just the other day and no one was outside with picket signs. I like the old yellow helmets anyway.

The other stadiums cited in the video are in states where just about everyone attending the game already lives in the state in which the stadium resides. I guess NJ is the exception, but I imagine a lot of people attending Giants and Jets games live in NJ as well. Maybe I'm wrong.
