Y'all are cray. And harsh. Resigning Orakpo to a cheap deal makes sense. Nobody will overpay anf he'll work hard for another contract. Too easy.

Rak isn't going to sign for a cheap deal. He was wanting in the area of 13mil/yr this off-season. This is going to turn out just like Carlos Rogers.

Maybe. Hard to see another franchise paying based his performance so far. He could make a great value player finally.

He doesn't want to sign for a cheap deal, just like he didn't want to get the franchise tag. IMO if he indeed tore another pec there is no chance he gets any sort of long term deal. He is setting him self up for another one year prove it deal, thankfully it won't be here.

What Orakpo think of himself as a player and what he is worth is IMO waaaay different than what it is in reality.

He actually has played DE in a 4-3 in the NFL, his rookie year with us. And that was his best year so far. He doesnt need magic, just needs his hand on the ground with no pass coverage responsibilities. He is much quicker off the ball when his hand was on the ground and that set up his speed rush better. The speed rush being better set up his bull rush. When he rushes from a 3-4 OLB stand up position, he is no where near as good as a pass rusher than he has shown when he is in a 3 point stance.

Its not happening here, but I do think he will have more success as a 4-3 DE than he does as a 3-4 OLB who spends a fair amount of time in pass coverage. We just keep shoving the square peg in a round hole and blaming the player for it not working out.

Exactly! They should never have given him anywhere near 11 mil. As I said before he's not a franchise player. He's done here.

Re: Is Brian Orakpo career as a Redskin possibly over

Haven't read the entire thread so I apologize for redundancy.

Orakpo is a good player to have on the team. He is not a franchise player. He has simply not been a play maker elite or otherwise. I would like to have him back for a reasonable price BUT I don't think he takes a reasonable price. Someone will overpay him. Personally, I think his "market value" as a UFA will be well above his value to us. At the same time, I will be sorry to see him go - if only b/c it creates a whole that needs to be filled and will likely be filled by a downgrade.

I think retaining him this year was not a horrible decision, it gave T.Murphy some time to develop. Hopefully, Murphy can step in and play. He doesn't have the raw talent of Rak but then Rak never seemed to play up to his talent.

If Rak comes back, great - so long as he realizes, he is not and never will be an elite player. Otherwise, it's probably best for both sides to move on.

Rak has not produced sacks as would be hoped or expected and is not elite. On the other hand, I am not "thankful" that it looks like a solid player will be moving on in the prime of his career. If it weren't for salary issues/expectations, Rak would be seen as a solid, but not spectacular, contributor to the defense.

If Rak were a former 7th round pick, we would be hoping to hold onto him at a reasonable price. I suspect that, just like D-Hall, Rak's absence will be felt beyond his immediate production.

Rak may not be elite, but I'm sure having him on the other side of Kerrigan has helped Kerrigan in his production. As you said in your previous post, not the worst decision int he world to keep him around this year. I'm fine with him walking out, since someone will likely overpay him.

I don't buy the arguement that he absence will make a huge impact on our defense. The year we lost him in 2012 in game 2 to another peck muscle tear our team went on a nice run and won the division. His loss hurt more in the short term than it did over the course of the season.

I was expecting Rak to be putting up some big numbers this year based on the addition of pass rushing specialist Coach Baker coming into the fold. We have seen his presence make an impact on Kerrigan, but Rak is still the same dude.

It will be interesting to see what they do moving forward... Rob Jackson is still unsigned. And I hate to say it but Rob would have made the play last week in the ARI game

I guess we won't know until he's out. I mean, some people don't think much of D. Hall and we're hurting bad in passing defense now that he's out.

Time to move on for both sides. Good dude and all but he's just not the difference maker we need him to be.
