2015 Redskins Cap Status
Cutting Porter and Chester will free up enough to get Cox and should leave some in reserve., I think. But I'd be ok with Culiver and Breeland as our CBs with Amerson in the slot and move DHall over to FS (strong and fast enough for it). Need SS help and O line help (and LB help) but can't do everything in free agency (or in 1 year).

Hopefully the negotiations are progressing with Williams and Kerrigan as well.

They could/can trade Amerson.

Just look at the impact of all the dudes we signed, it adds up. They can clear more space if they want. For example, if they signed Kerrigan or Trent to an extension now it could result in reducing the cap number.

I see it this way in base 3-4 or 4-3; Cullver #1 CB Breeland #2CB In the nickle, if Hall is healthy and back to old self, I see Breeland and Hall outside CB and Culliver in slot. Culliver is now our best cover corner although Breeland is impressing more and more. This is a long shot, but Amerson should get a look at FS. I know that sounds crazy, but 6'1' and 200 pounds, he has the size, youth and athletic skills. In college he had a good amount of int's, but as soon as everyone discovered he would bite on the double move, receivers have had him off balance ever since. He lost his edge. Amerson can not consistently cover NFL caliber WR's in man form the line of scrimmage. By moving him to FS it would take him away from playing man on a WR. That difficult task would now be Culliver and Breeland's. Amerson is now over the top waiting, he would go back to being a ball hawk, which he has done pretty well in the past. This might work. Devin McCourty was a CB moved to FS. |

Re: 2015 Redskins Cap Status
I just did a review. Embarrassingly (for an accountant/finance guy) I was starting from the wrong spot. I was counting the total cap dollars, but rules say the top 51 players count against the cap during the offseason.
I've reconciled and adjusted the original post. It now ties out to OverTheCap and had the starting point for cap room at about $25M per media reports. We now show $12.7M in cap room after signing Knighton and Culliver (Culliver had a lower cap hit than I thought for the first season). We could clear more cap space by extending Trent or Kerrigan. We could also cut Porter to save $2.3M, do something with Paulsen, or renegotiate Chester somehow. Sorry for that mistake. No time like the present to get it right.

Thanks Schneed. You do a great job for all of us here. I like overthecap.com, but you add the Skins perspective and do a great job every year.

Re: 2015 Redskins Cap Status
Thanks. At least I got to tell everyone we have more cap space than I thought and not the other way around, lol.

Pick your game up man. Your skill set is not so scarce that we can't find a replacement. It's likely to be a vet minimum contract for you.
