Griffin to Garcon is going to rule.
VJax would have been more taxing on the cap (particularly in 2012, when Jackson is counting $13 million against TBs cap and Garcon about $4.5 against ours). But Jackson is a MUCH better player than Garcon, and he likely deserves the difference.

Age is a big deal though. If Garcon develops as the Shanahan's expect (given this deal), he could be a bargain in years 3-5. Where as Jackson will almost certainly be overpaid in the same years.

Garcon though has to get past years 1 and 2 though. $10 mil/year for two seasons for a receiver who doesn't develop is tough to swallow no matter how much cap space one has. The Bucs aren't projecting Jackson to turn into a number one for them, as he already is. Which is the big difference.

Plus the Morgan signings suggests the Shanahan's don't think this signing is a slam dunk. If it is a great move and Garcon-Griffin is the new Harrison-Manning, Morgan will rot on the bench for a year and then look for work in 2013, B. Lloyd-style.

But Morgan's speed and versatility gives the Redskins a non-Armstrong option if one too many Griffin bombs go through Garcon's hands.

I don't disagree that VJax is the better player. But the bolded part is why I think we got a good value (provided Garcon develops, of course).

As for Morgan, it seems to me like we are doing a complete housecleaning at WR. I do not expect Morgan to rot on the bench. I think Morgan is the Housh to Garcon's Ochocinco a la 2005 Bengals.

Yes have does and many saw moss as just another guy, obviously he's one of the best WRs we've had ever imo

Keim read my mind with this part of the piece:
. "My assumption is that Niles Paul still would make the roster as a No. 5; the Redskins love his special teams prowess and his blocking. I wonder about Gaffney. He had a career year in 2011 and was a solid route-runner. But Gaffney didn't scare defenses and managed only 172 yards after the catch on 68 receptions. Hard to see where he'd fit in if the Redskins get all three receivers. "

I agree 10000%. Paul to me is a keeper, Gaffney might have a tough time especially gets tougher with Eddie Royal.

I can definitely understand why Gaffney could be out. Solid possession guy, but he doesn't scare defenses and he doesn't do anything after the catch.

But, he made the big catches last season. He had a couple of drops, but Moss, Stallworth and Armstrong couldn't hold onto big catches to save their lives. Gaffney caught almost every ball and was reliable in the red zone.

He'll be back.

Garcon doesn't have great hands though, I'd rather see them get a guy with sure hands. Not to mention his contract is redskins stupid money. Morgan was a great pickup, very underrated guy, should do very well IMO.

Yeah, kinda feel bad for Gaffney but that is the business. Everyone throws around trades for players that are outlandish and dont stand a chance, but Gaffney could hold a late round trade value if the situation presents itself.

Good read, thanks for the link. These signings will either be viewed as good or bad based on how RG3 (or the 5% chance of Luck) plays....lots of pressure on him but seems like a smart kid so hopefully he picks up the offense quickly and can let his talent take over.

Someone was mentioning on here the other day that the Colts may be leaning towards RG3 because he spoke so much more eloquently than Luck during interviews. Doubt it is true, but you never know.

I think they figure Morgan can have the same production as Gaffney and is younger. If Gaffney leaves that frees up #10.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

He should wear #3. It will be a nice marketing thing too.
