Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread

Can't ask for much more than that--no injuries, efficient O, solid D.

Hard to take too much from the 1st game after a short preseason, but whatever.

I liked seeing the stretch play ACTUALLY LOOK RIGHT! Personnel makes a lot of difference for that sort of thing. And I like all the youngins out there. And glad to see Banks making noise in the return game--that will keep him around, most likely.

As for the D, obviously the front is way better. We still have a propensity to leave our gaps, as with the Pitt TD. When that happens, it looks terrible. But overall, we could clearly see what a difference the new blood makes. Hope Landry makes it back, coz he is going to get some chances to HIT (See Gomes, etc.)

Now, what will Beck do? Will Hankerson recover? And who is our ILB next to Fletch? Not sure anyone stepped up too much there, but it's hard to see.

Anyway, FOOTBALL IS BACK! And I feel good about our direction (as do many of y'all)--the divas and fools are gone, and now it's about playing football. It make take some time, but this is the way to go!

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread

Wow, every search on Twitter today about the Skins QB situation got me snide comments about Rex or Beck. Tonight, dead silence.

Ok we did not score a bunch of points but our 1st, 2nd, & 3rd team D & O kicked their ass. We looked like the better team tonight and against the Pit I'm very pleased with what I saw.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread

5 Thoughts I took from this game:

1. Hightower can be the feature RB.
2. O-Line is much improved.
3. Grossman will be our starting QB Wk 1.
4. Hankerson needs A LOT of work.
5. Depth on both sides were above average.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread

I liked seeing how free our LB's were to make plays with a decent d-line in front of them. Solid game all around. Nothing special, but good start. I was certainly expecting a lot sloppier team, a lot more penalties, turnovers, etc., and was pleasantly suprised in that regard. Nothing to get excited about because it's just preseason but okay start all around.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread

Good:

1) QB Play from Rex and Clemmens.
2) D-line getting pressure
3) Kerrigan's play as a rookie OLB
4) OL pass and run blocking
5) Banks returns
6) Gano's kicking
7) Overall WR play

I'm really impressed by how efficient our offense moved the ball. (both 1st and 2nd string) Rex played a phenominal game, and has now set the bar for Beck. Seeing our RBs run tonight was a breath of fresh air after last pre-season and seeing the likes of Larry Johnson and Willie "not so fast" Parker unable to break the line of scrimmage. Torrain better be worried. He's got competition for sure. Really impressed with Royster and TH. WR's did a great job, minus Hank and looks to be a position of strength now.

Bad:
1) Coverage from 1st team was horrible. It's not just the safeties either. D.Hall and Wilson were getting burnt.

2) Special teams, minus Gano and Banks. (graham and robinson were awful)

3) Hankerson still having drop issues

The front 7 on the D-line was a huuuuge improvement over last year and this was exactly what I was looking for tonight. Pressure, stuffing the run. Our coverage is a big ? at this point, but hopefully that clears up some come next pre-season game.

Where are all the Hightower haters -- best pickup of the offseason in my opinion

On that early play when Big Ben just missed his guy, both WRs were open deep

You guys are kidding right? Yeah Rex looked sharp, I'll give him that. That was the #1 thing I said I wanted to see tonight in the Preseason week 1 expectations thread.

But come on. Their starters barely played. Our starting offense played the entire first half against Pitt's #2's with the exception of a series or two, and it was 7-7 tie at halftime. Not exactly bragging material.
