Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Preseason Pre-Game Thread

Can't ask for much more than that--no injuries, efficient O, solid D.

Hard to take too much from the 1st game after a short preseason, but whatever.

I liked seeing the stretch play ACTUALLY LOOK RIGHT! Personnel makes a lot of difference for that sort of thing. And I like all the youngins out there. And glad to see Banks making noise in the return game--that will keep him around, most likely.

As for the D, obviously the front is way better. We still have a propensity to leave our gaps, as with the Pitt TD. When that happens, it looks terrible. But overall, we could clearly see what a difference the new blood makes. Hope Landry makes it back, coz he is going to get some chances to HIT (See Gomes, etc.)

Now, what will Beck do? Will Hankerson recover? And who is our ILB next to Fletch? Not sure anyone stepped up too much there, but it's hard to see.

Anyway, FOOTBALL IS BACK! And I feel good about our direction (as do many of y'all)--the divas and fools are gone, and now it's about playing football. It make take some time, but this is the way to go!

Wow, every search on Twitter today about the Skins QB situation got me snide comments about Rex or Beck. Tonight, dead silence.

You guys are kidding right? Yeah Rex looked sharp, I'll give him that. That was the #1 thing I said I wanted to see tonight in the Preseason week 1 expectations thread.

But come on. Their starters barely played. Our starting offense played the entire first half against Pitt's #2's with the exception of a series or two, and it was 7-7 tie at halftime. Not exactly bragging material.

I beg to differ. We played an established Super Bowl winning team in the Steelers. They have not been rebuilding their depth like we have. Our offensive line was much improved. Rex played really well. Most of the receivers showed good progress. Our RB corps appears to be a stable again instead of a barn. The front 7 look much improved with all of our new pick ups. Yes I will concede the secondary needs improvement, but I thought overall this team has looked a hell of a lot better in this first preseason game than in recent memory. I just think its reason to celebrate. At least we aren't going backwards for once. Sorry for being happy. I'll stop if it makes you feel better...

I checked our schedule. Steelers second teamers not listed on there.

Oh well, maybe next year.

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm always happy to see the Redskins win, but all those things our starters did, let's not get ahead of ourselves and remember that we really couldn't manage more than a 7-7 tie with our 1's playing their 2's during most of the first half. I would hope our starters would look good playing backups.

But I agree, it's nice to see some positive changes when compared to last year. I'm stoked about Hightower. Dude's a baller.

But, but, but...it should have been 10-7!

I was saying it mostly in jest. Still, had we looked like dog shit the haters would be out in full force.

There were a lot of positives to take from that game.

I thought Rex showed very well last night, his best drive was our first drive. We started at our own one yd. line and he marched the team 80+yds; the drive culminated in a missed FG by Graham, but it did indeed come against the Steelers starters.

I realize it's just preseason, but Grossman did pitch for a 73.1 comp % a first for him under any circumstance.

Beck proved the hatters wrong today. And I must say: he wore it well.

Did he prove the hatters wrong with his groin strain on the sidelines? Was it proved with yoga? pilates? P90X?
