Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
Something I'd like to know is why the tackling on the defense is so bad. Our scheme itself doesn't seem bad as we seem to constantly have defenders in the backfield on running plays in position to stop a play for negative yardage, yet it ends up in a 5 yard gain.
To me, if the players are in position to make plays then the coaches are scheme-wise doing something correct. Is it lack of effort? Attitude? Etc etc etc......I have never seen so many missed opportunities game in and game out to see plays made that can make a huge difference. |

GIF of sack yesterday where Trent doesnt even get out of his stance bc LeRib snapped the ball on the wrong count. Actually, nobody gets out of their stance, everyone except Trent just reacted quicker. Looks like Cousins hard count fooled him. LeRib has to go at this point. Looking froward to listening to grudens presser. he doesnt bash specific players any more ... but i want him to show some frustration here. Who was our backup center entering the regular season? if it was LeRib, Scot screwed up relying on a guard who never played center and was mostly off our 53 last year.

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
I wonder if de la Puenta replaces him on Sunday. It's isn't as though these mistakes are made up for by superior blocking, especially as to the run. We really need a serious upgrade at this position for McLovin' to have the smashmouth team in the trenches he wants. The good news is that the rest of the O-line is in decent shape.

But every game there seems to be some excuse yet the gameplan and playcalling doesn't change (i.e. predictable base personnel run on 1st downs etc..) the only difference is the quality of our opponents. I think there is a word for doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. |

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
Look, the reality is that we haven't beaten a quality team this year. The Bucs, Eagles, Rams, and Saints aren't particularly strong (the Bucs are probably the best of that lot, and we needed to stage our biggest comeback in history to win that one). Until we beat a quality team, no one will ever mistake us for one.

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
I understand the concept of protecting the players but the officials have in my opinion taken over the sport to the point that if something is not done the NFL is going to start a decline. After Every good play before i get excited i have to wait to see if flag is thrown..its almost like i would rather DVR the game and have a app that deletes all the bogus calls just like commercials are skipped just to enjoy the game. When Roberts returned the kickoff for td i didn't even get excited because i just knew a flag had been thrown. the play on culliver was a game changer and if that had stood i really believe we would have been competitive instead of blowout. If this continues I will no longer watch the NFL ..I have been a redskin fan since 1969 and watched every game either tv,recorded same day, live or radio..so i am not some casual fan . The officials are at best bad and they are being told how to call games by the league who's track record is not so good of late..All I can say is if the Redskins had committed all the infractions that the Patriots had we would not have a first round pick the next 5 years..it does seem the league has it in for the Redskins..if they really want to protect the players the rule should be IF a offense player makes a aggressive move with helmet or does not try to avoid helmet to helmet then they there is penalty..either that or all plays can be reviewed by upstairs official that actually understands the rule..that culliver call would have been overruled..you think They make that call in the Super Bowl? the officials should be held to a tighter standard and replays must be used on all plays that impact the game.they say replays are used on all scoring plays right? we scored and where was the review? The redskins gave up after that. the officials took over what could have been a tight game.

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
I really don't understand why DY is getting next to no snaps.
McCoy, TE was just released and has been a bust all year. Not sure how good he was because he didn't look like he knew which play was being run when he was in the game. Carrier has made some catches, but has really struggled in the run game, both front side and backside. We have one of the best FB in the league who can do everything well: block, run, pass protect, catch out of backfield. DY doesn't care what he is asked to do he busts ass and is good at everything, including special teams. I love to go back and watch his ST plays. The beat reporters who cover the team have reported throughout the year that Callahan doesn't like to design a run game plan with two backs (i.e. Demarco Murray the lone wolf @ Cowboys). Well, he should have started designing plays for two backs when Niles Paul and Logan Paulson went down and you start signing guys who were then unemployed. Jay and McVay and the whole damn lot of them should have started designing more plays with DY. Put the best players on the field and let them make plays. He is a baller watching the game from the bench. It's just stupid.

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
Jesus, I hate to say it but 30gut is right.
If fans sitting at home have a really good idea of which play is coming, the Carolina defense does too. Does anybody know, for sure, who is calling the plays? It was supposed to be some communistic collaboration at the beginning of the year, but I haven't seen or read about what is happening this far in the season.

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
^ We just need better players. Build the offensive line.
"I got to the line, and I said to Randy White, 'Our coaches love you. We're going to run it over you again and again.' Randy wasn't very happy, but after three or four times, he didn't say a word." -Jeff Bostic "No. Fifty Gut." -Russ Grimm, interrupting Theismann in the huddle with four minutes to play in the NFC Championship, in response to a Coach Gibbs playcall of "Spread Wide, Sixty Outside" "Randy - it's coming at you." -Russ Grimm to Randy White at the line of scrimmage a few seconds later "Everyone in the huddle was laughing..." -Don Warren in reference to running '50 Gut' nine times in a row directly at Randy White.

Re: Skins @ Panthers gameday thread
Yeah it is really puzzling how you can't find a way to get Darrell Young into the game. He was on his way to being one of the game's best fullbacks, in fact he might have been right about there under Shanahan. He was a beast at setting up blocks for Morris and was an underrated weapon in the passing game. Under Gruden, I sometimes forget he is even still on the roster.
IMO, a good coach finds a way to utilize the talent on the team over being 100% dead set in whatever kind of "scheme/offense" they want to implement. |
