Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State

Apparently the Big Ten was considering removing Penn State's membership in the conference. They just decided to take the $13million/year in Bowl money instead.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Indiana Hoosiers rip them apart on the gridiron every year from now on.

Looking over their schedule, they open with the Ohio Bobcats, a good team...not the usual cupcake opener.

Then Virginia, Navy and Temple before the Big 10 teams.

They could lose every game.

I especially want Navy to blow their doors off...a program with real role models, unlike PSU.

I imagine they'll be competitive this year with seniors and juniors choosing to stay. It'll be the depth and the future teams that will most likely cause the PSU program to suffer. Not like PSU was that great to begin with. Over the past decade, I think they've average 8 wins a season? Pretty mediocre if you ask me.

Someone on the local talk radio station just suggested the melt the bronze statue down into some kind of commemorative coins and sell them with the profits going to charity since a lot of people would want a piece of that statue.

Sounds OK aside from the sick part about selling that statue to the twisted Paterno-worshippers, even if they money will do good.

Even with their dismantled teams, the fans and school are still going to put their football team first. PSU fandom is a disease.
While I agree, I think you are underestimating the impact these punishments will have on the next breed of PSU fans/football players. The older diehards will remain, but you need to keep the supply coming. Sure their kids may be fans, but after the team suffers for a decade, why would the next decade support the team as much? Younger HS players rarely care about loyality, especially if it means associated yourself with a tarnished name.

I have several good friends and family that went to PSU so I know exactly what you are talking about, but I guess I just feel the impact will be a bit more than a slap on the wrist.

Re: Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State

The football program, from top to bottom, maybe even including players since some of this happened in the team locker room, all covered up Sandusky's sins. The football program was punished as it should have been.

Of course fans and current players will be impacted by ANY punishment to the football program. You can't avoid that and shouldn't consider it when taking appropriate disciplinary actions against the guilty party...the football program.

I'm sick of the fans, students, media and anyone else whining about "punishing innocent people". The football program did this and the football program was punished. Any collateral damage...too bad, it could not be avoided.

These crybabies should consider themselves lucky that they'll have ANY games to see this year.

Breaking news: The "boy in the shower" just came forward and said he's suing Penn State and he has voicemails recorded from Sandusky "confessing his love" for the boy.

At least we know he is still alive, unlike the DA who was investigating him.

Penn State Nittany Lions -- Trustees to file appeal, federal lawsuit upon denial - ESPN

These new BoT assholes the alumni have voted in are pathetic. At this point, I wouldn't care if they carpet bombed the place into oblivion.

Well, if a representative of Penn State accepted the deal, to save Penn State from a multi-year death penalty. Then Penn state reneges on the deal...

I'm with you.

As long as these cultist PSU fans have games to go to so they can have their regular Saturday parties, they're not going to grasp that they did something wrong. They're crying over the statue coming down and no Bowl Game winter vacation for a few years and they still don't seem to understand WHY they're being punished.

I wanted the death penalty for them so they're forced to stop and think about what happened instead of living in their blue and white football fantasyland.

I'm a huge football fan myself, but Penn Staters treat it like a religion. I have Skins stuff hanging up in my house but I don't have literal shrines to the coach, it's disturbing. Even worse, if our coach or team did something like this, I wouldn't leave those shrines hanging up. It's sick.

They're treating these punishments as a rally call to help the team and school. They're going to show up and cheer for their losing team, they're vowing to increase their contributions to help pay for the fines...they just don't get it. Shut it down and they might.
