This is a rumor about a head coaching position.... Every year a huge percent of these turn out to be BS. The stuff about rg3 is, by all reports, true. They may not be fully representative of everything about rg3 as a human being, but they are reports of actual events.... Not rumors of potential future events, as with a coaching hire.

I agree. But to an extent it's somewhat contingent on what kind of coach you want to hire. For example, if we wanted to bring in Jon Gruden, then Allen would just hire him and we'd have a similar structure as we do now. I would imagine if you want Lovie, you hire him and let him pick a GM. Otherwise, you hire a GM and let him pick a coach.

Not saying they can't do it eventually, but it's unlikely to come together in a single off-season. And they're coming into a situation where character and leadership have to be absolutely solid. This team hasn't had that in its coaching in four years. You get all those things automatically with Lovie. Character. Leadership. Full staff.
Why are you so confident that Lovie is a safe pick? Hiring a head coach that had won 2 SB's, and had a winning record over a 15 year career as a head coach seems like a pretty safe move to any reasonable person, and yet Mike Shanahan is going to finish his worthless career here with a worse record than Jim Zorn did. 3-13? Fuck this asshole and his shitty ego, his shitty coaching staff, and everything else associated with him.

Haven't you learned by now there are no safe picks in this job? What a ridiculous assumption. I want a head coach that's going to win Super Bowls. Notice the s at the end of that sentence? Lovie had plenty of time to do that in Chicago, and he didn't come close. If the guy that can do that is the "riskiest" move, so be it. I don't want some guy who's going to be 8-8 year after year, just barely doing enough to keep his job.

So even the reports where his teammates stand up for him are true? Or is it just the reports from anonymous sources that call him an egotistical jerk who doesn't want to listen, or is too busy being buddy buddy with DS, etc true?

Who says they aren't all true? Just because he's a diva doesn't mean teammates aren't going to publically stand up for him. It also doesn't mean he's the devil with no redeeming qualities. Just that, right now, he's not consistently displaying the qualities you want from your starting quarterback.

Whole lotta stupid in this thread ... RGIII a uncoachable diva, Lovie Smith the ONLY safe HC'ing choice (He has done exactly what?).

I'm just saying you can't believe everything you hear. Do I believe that RG3 and Shanny don't like each other? Yes. Everything else is up for debate.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)

Can we get a poll option for "someone temporary" while they rebuild for 3 more years before "someone temporary" gets chased out of town by ludicrous expectations, and toxic media?

This isn't the pre Harbaugh 49'ers... this isn't even the pre Singletary 49'ers.

The skins need 3 or 4 years of ACTUAL rebuilding with 1st round draft picks... that means they've got to get past the next couple drafts before the 3 or 4 years really starts.

If we fans are lucky this is the Mike Nolan 49'ers and the next guy is the Mike Singletary, so who cares, bring in a hard ass disciplinarian for a couple years. If we're not lucky this is the Erikson era that's about to end here.

(note literal parallels are not intended)

You know what you also get with Lovie? Bad time out management, penalty and mistake filled football, terrible clock management, a guy who doesn't do offense at all, and really questionable history of challenges (IIRC one of the worst in the league)...

Hmmm so basically he's a Defense version of Mike Shanahan with worse challenge decisions.

Whatever bring him on, the next guy will do his 1.5 year stint while they (maybe if we're lucky) start building a real team up... Or he'll do his 1.5 years while they continue to throw resources into a dumpster fire.

All the usual news outlets are saying there's a meeting between Shanahan and Snyder tomorrow morning. Probably means it's already done. As honest as politicians.
