Re: Your opinion on the Skins free agent moves so far?

I love the moves so far and we're not done yet.

A question that keeps coming to me is what does this mean for Patten? He's pretty well paid for a 4th reviever and doesn't play special teams which has been the down fall of others with Gibbs. Gibbs tolerace for guys who run their mouthes is also short. I wouldn't buy a house in DC if I were Patten.

As for Randle el and Lloyd I'd say they might get more touches this coming year than they got last season no matter who is the #2 or #3.

Aa looks like a great addition for this team because of GW system.

The difference between this and 2000 is this time we're bringing in guys who can help this team now and in the future because they're young. Thats wasn't the case in 2000.

i think they are all smart moves, and I am more optimistic this time since we are keeping our core and our coaching staff intact, more or less. If this were a new coaching staff and the big moves again, i'd be more worried.

Well, I voted 'other', because there's still work to be done in my mind. Though after voting that way, I realized the question did contain the words "so far." My bad.

I'm a little hesitant about Brandon Lloyd. I agree we needed not one, but two upgrades at wide receiver, because I think Thrash and Taylor Jacobs are jokes. But dammit, I'm tired of parting with draft picks. Doesn't anybody else feel like we might have been able to find a wideout on par with Lloyd's abilities without giving up a 3rd and 4th rounder?

Randle El is the real deal, and I'm ecstatic that he's a Redskin. Those that point to his modest career stats have to remember that he comes from a 'run first, run second and throw only when you absolutely have to' type of offense in Pittsburgh. His value in returning punts and kicks will be pivotal, too. Adam Archuletta was also a need, and it's good to see the Skins having an eye for the future when Sean Taylor's legal status is still in question.

Now we need to concentrate on defensive line, corner and O-line depth. I know some of these areas will be addressed on the draft using whatever picks we have left.

Agreed. I'm a little concerned that we gave up two draft picks for Lloyd. Thats a little much for a 3rd receiver. We all agree that Thrash isn't a #2. Patten would do well as a #3 (w/ 2 other threats on the field). Thrash would most likely do well as a #3 as well.

I'm no "capoligist" but at some point i think the signing bonuses have to come back to bite us.
10mill Randel El
10mill Arch
10m Carter
Lloyd? Close to 10m?

=40 mill so far

Don't get me wrong i like the talent but i don't want it to come back and bite us 2 years from now. I do trust gibbs & co but in my opinion we didn't need 2 wr's.

lloyd is the #2 possession type, El is the slot guy (he's better there) patten is the key reserve. saunders is probably going to use a base 3wr set instead of a base 2 TE set like last year (or a FB/RB base set), so that's why they want 3 good WRs + a backup.

they all count less than 3mill this year (arch 1mill less than the other 3). later on the cap either needs to continue to expand enough to keep the skins afloat on restructures until new labor or tv contracts kick in, while doing typical house cleaning to tweak the yearly roster.

the 6 and 7 year deals really allow you to get good value if the players do well, cause you're (hopefully) paying a 2006 non-peak production wage for years of peak production in 2007-2010. Drafting is still a MUCH better value though.

I have been asking myself all day, "What does David Patten think about all of these new receivers?"

He has already asked JG if he's going to play the best man. Competition is always good for everyone.

GREAT MOVE, never will be it the same as 2000, the main difference is Gibbs and his coaching staff, they will make all of this FA talent into one cohesive SB team

Thank you Mr. Snyder

this will be complete if we sign John Abraham

no please don't get John Abraham

he'll end up costing us a 2nd round pick and like $8million/year and he's not a good character player

just get carter, then sign a 3rd cb and get o-line depth

which 3rd rounder is going to put up 800-1000yards THIS year. immediate impact beyond the 1st round is very hard to find. cooley looks like a 800yard/year TE, but in his first year he only put up 260yards.

WR and DE draftees are notoriously bad at being useful early on.

That's assuming we would have picked a WR or DE with the 3rd round pick. Cornerbacks and offensive line help are also on the needs list. My contention is that there might have been a wideout that we could have acquired through free agency close to Lloyd's ability that wouldn't have costed us draft picks.

To the skeptics; say what you will about picking up two receivers with question marks but here's a fact to ponder:

Last year, 19 WRs averaged >15 yards a catch (of WRs that had >30 catches). We have three of them now...

It seems like everyone is pretty happy. I don't think we should pick up anymore 49ers. Remember they are the worst team. Has anyone heard B Lloyd rap?! O and can we please pick up a new kicker. Hows 6 years 30 mil sound, Adam V.?
