NFL | G. Blue Pro Day results
Fri, 24 Mar 2006 19:28:09 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Georgia S Greg Blue weighed 220 pounds at his Pro Day workout Thursday, March 23. He ran his 40s in 4.55 and 4.59 seconds. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.28 and the three-cone drill in 7.09. On the other tests, he stood on his NFL Combine performances.

Originally i think people expected him to run faster than a 4.55. He's still a solid hitter and 4.55 isn't terrible for him.

NFL | R. Collier Pro Day results
Fri, 24 Mar 2006 19:46:11 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Valdosta State OT Richard Collier measured 6-7 3/8 and weighed 360 pounds at his Pro Day workout Thursday, March 23. He ran his 40s in 5.43 and 5.38 seconds. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.64 and the three-cone drill in 7.88. In addition, he had a 28-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot-10 broad jump and 20 bench presses.

heaviest OT i've seen so far... pretty tall too (though one guy this year is 6'10"). he actually improved his 40 time by 3/10s while also loading up an extra 15lbs. 20 bench presses is pretty bad for an OL guy with his size though. He'll probably still be undrafted, but there's a good chance of a camp invite, especially with a team (like the vikes) who like their O-linemen BIG.

unless...

Houston takes Bush
New Orleans takes Leinart
Tennessee takes Cutler
Jets take Ferguson
Packers take Hawk
49ers trade their pick to Minnesota/Denver who select Young

Or not...

NFL | Humes works out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:12:39 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Virginia Tech FB Cedrick Humes measured a height of 6-0 3/8 and a weight of 224 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash twice with times of 4.59 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.25 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.78 seconds. He measured a 32-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-3 broad jump.

great numbers for a FB, but most people have him listed as an RB, in which case the numbers aren't that great. He won't be drafted before the late 3rd round either way.

NFL | D. Jackson does not work out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:48:57 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Maryland LB D'Qwell Jackson measured a weight of 232 pounds at his Pro Day and stood on all of his numbers from the NFL Combine.

NFL | D. Tapp does some work at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:11:30 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Virginia Tech DL Darryl Tapp measured a height of 6-1 3/8 and a weight of 256 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.81 seconds and 4.79 seconds. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Combine.

NFL | J. Williams works out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:11:06 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Virginia Tech DB Jimmy F. Williams measured a height of 6-2 1/8 and a weight of 216 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.41 seconds and 4.46 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.15 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.69 seconds. He measured a 33-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-6 broad jump while completing 12 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

It's surprising that D'Qwell chose not to work out. Tapp tried to run again, but he's still slow .

J Williams had good, but not great numbers, but at 6'2"+ and close to 220lbs, its a bit on the HUGE size for CBs. I can't believe he only has a 33" vert though. still an obvious 1st rounder. The ONLY CB in his size/speed class is antonio cromartie (another obvious high pick despite a severe injury that cost him a year). Chijioke Onyenegecha also has the same height/weight, but runs a 4.55 (projected 5th round), and Marcus Maxley is 20lbs lighter, but is also 6'2" and a 4.48 guy (projected late 3rd/early 4th).

NFL | J. Hamilton works out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:19:11 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Virginia Tech S Justin Hamilton measured a height of 6-2 1/2 and a weight of 218 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.54 seconds and 4.52 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.04 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.66 seconds. He measured a 42 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-6 broad jump while completing 19 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

NFL | W. Montgomery works out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:14:32 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Virginia Tech OL Will Montgomery measured a height of 6-3 and a weight of 308 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.99 seconds and 4.98 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.46 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.30 seconds. He measured a 26 1/2-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-4 broad jump, but stood on his bench press numbers from the NFL Combine.

NFL | G. McPhearson works out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 20:06:19 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Maryland CB Gerrick McPhearson measured a weight of 197 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.38 seconds and 4.35 seconds at his Pro Day. He stood on his vertical jump, long shuttle, and bench numbers from the NFL Combine. McPherson ran the short shuttle in 4.07 seconds, the long shuttle in 10.94 seconds, and the three-cone drill in 6.65 seconds.

All three of these guys put up somewhat crazy numbers, and all will be low picks.

J Hamilton - probably undrafted, but could go in the 7th, never paid attention to him, but VA Tech, so if someone actually has a good read on if he sucks or not, i'd like to hear it. If he goes undrafted, he's got better numbers than sean taylor did, with a fast stop/start and would definately be worth a look.

Will montgomery - C/OG prospect, late rounds (6-7), very athletic and probably the best OL value in the very late rounds. Fast enough that he could do spot work as a blocking TE immediately.

G McPherson - CB (near the 4th round) no one lives and dies by the 40 time as much as a CB. This guy has great shuttle and three cone times as well (same as tye hill) and a 41" vert. That means he should be able to get in position for a lot of picks or pass defenses and recover from double moves well.

After looking through the top CB picks times, I noticed Jonathan Joseph is 2/10ths slower on his shuttle and 3/10ths slower on his triangle than a guy with 4.3 speed should be, which raises some doubts for when he'll need to cover cuts instead of fly routes.

If anyone has watched these guys play for more than a few minutes (JH especially, but WM, GM, and J Joseph as well), I'd like to hear your comments on them.

NFL | J. Walker works out at Pro Day
Sat, 25 Mar 2006 19:57:44 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Maryland WR Jo Jo Walker measured a height of 5-8 5/8 and a weight of 168 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.44 seconds and 4.40 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.14 seconds, the long shuttle in 11.07 seconds, and the three-cone drill in 6.87 seconds. He measured a 39-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-4 long shuttle jump while completing 11 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

Dolphins | Team looking to meet with V. Young

the dolphins meeting with young is odd considering they don't pick until #16 and they just got culpepper (which means they probably can't trade up since they're mising a 2nd round pick). The only reason i can think of is young diving like rodgers did last year AND the dolphins thinking at that point he'd be the best value at that point AND betting that culpepper might not be ready or might have a shortened career. thats a lot of ands/ifs.

also, i'd like to say hi to Maryland WR Jo Jo Walker, his stats are similar to mine, good luck getting drafted at 5'8" and 165lbs.

NFL | M. Robinson holding on to belief he can play quarterback
Sun, 26 Mar 2006 05:52:44 -0800

Bob Flounders, of the Patriots-News, reports Penn State QB Michael Robinson is clinging to the belief he can play quarterback in the NFL. Not all the NFL teams share the same opinion as the April 29 NFL Draft draws closer. "I feel like I have handled things pretty well. I feel like I'm on the right course," said Robinson. He auditioned for NFL people during Penn State's Pro Day in State College this month. "I think I did well," said the 6-2, 220-pound Robinson. Robinson, who is represented by agent Joel Segal, said the NFL's reaction to his immediate future is mixed. He will be drafted, he said he's heard as high as the second round, but he's not sure where he'll play. Some teams view him as a wide receiver, others as a third-down back.

i don't know who'd draft him in the 2nd or who'd let him be anything besides a 3rd string QB.

meeting with young makes more sense now. apparently the dolphins QB coach is hitting as many QBs as he can.

NFL | C. Barclay works out at Pro Day
Sun, 26 Mar 2006 11:38:40 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Wake Forest RB Chris Barclay measured a height of 5-8 3/8 and a weight of 180 pounds at his Pro Day. Barclay ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.38 seconds with the wind and 4.46 seconds against the wind while finishing the short shuttle in 4.09 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.65 seconds. He measured a 40-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot broad jump while completing 16 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

those numbers would be great for a CB, much less an RB. He'll be drafted because of this workout (low rounds, probably near the 6th).

2005 stats:
218 rushes, 1127 yards (5.17ypc), 10 TDs
26 receptions, 159 yards
12 KO returns for 222 yards (18.5per), 3 solo tackles

4 year starter (46 games) averaging 1008 yards and 10 TDs a year with 100 yards receving.

NFL | A. Harris works out at Pro Day
Sun, 26 Mar 2006 18:11:47 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Northern Illinois RB A.J. Harris measured a height of 6-0 7/8 and a weight of 230 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash twice with times of 4.52 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.18 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.65 seconds. He measured a 38 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot broad jump while completing 22 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

another RB with good pro day numbers, though he was thought to have 4.4 speed... only a part timer in college, he'll probably still make a roster this year.

I live about 40 mins from the NIU campus, so I got to see this guy play a bit. His playing speed isn't as impressive as his numbers indicate, but I think he'd be a decent seventh round pickup.
