Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
I think that everyone is looking at this years draft all wrong. We are putting to much on the whole Rocky pick where we need to look at the draft as a whole.
The "Overall" 2006 Washington Redskins Draft: Round 1 - QB - Jason Campbell - Auburn (Denver Trade) Round 2 - OLB - Roger "Rocky" McIntosh - Miami Round 3 - WR - Brandon Lloyd - Illinois (49er Trade) Round 4 - QB - Jason Campbell - Auburn (Denver Trade) Round 5 - DT - Anthony Montgomery - Minnesota Round 6 - SS - Reed Doughty - Northern Colorado Round 6 - OLB - Roger "Rocky" McIntosh - Miami (NY Jets Trade) Round 6 - DT - Kedric Golston - Georgia Round 7 - G - Kili Lefotu - Arizona Round 7 - ILB - Kevin Simon - Tennessee Some may say that we gave up to much for Campbell and McIntosh, but looking at it what are the chances that who ever we would have picked up in the 4th and 6th round would have made the team anyway? Now next years 2nd round pick which essentially is also used for Rocky is another story, but like this year if we have another good year our 2nd round pick could be at the tail end of the 2nd round which would almost be like the begining of the 3rd round. Either way I am glad with the team we have and the draft choices we made. I am looking forward to this season with somewhat high expectations...

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
Redskins 8588, you're double-counting Jason Campbell and Rocky McIntosh. Did you go to the Arthur Anderson School of Accounting?
J/K I realize what you were getting at. Good points. |

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
The problem with giving up so much is the fact that at the time we made the trade 3 OLB's were available Howard, Alston, and Mcintosh, I honestly prefered the first 2 over Rocky, and would have had alston as my first priority, and yes he was available at 53. Rocky may turn out to be a decent LB but he is not going to be a great LB or a pro-bowler, but servicable. I just feel we gave up far to much for a LB of his caliber.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
I don't know if we gave up to much or not. I am sure that everyone listened to Gibbs int re: the draft (on redskins.com). He did not want any of the other guys available at the # 53 slot. He (and Greg) had thoroughly researched the subject and both agreed that Rocky is the man! and the guy they could not afford to risk missing. a difference maker. TOTALLY sound philosophy. I am confident they know what they are doing. Time will tell if they are correct.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
The best people to ask if they think McIntosh is worth it are the 'Canes fans that attend/watch every game and are intimately familiar with Rocky's playmaking ability. Versus VA Tech, I thought he was pretty decent but I only have two games that I can call upon to really form an opinion.
As far as Jimmy Williams goes, I for one one am glad we didn't draft him. He has tremendous athletic ability but I can't stand his attitude.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
I gave the selection a B. I like the pickup, basically I like anyone from The U. They all seem to come into the pro's well prepared and make impacts on the teams they are drafted too. I think McIntosh was a great selection for us in terms of need and getting a quality player.
I still dont understand the trade that we made to gain the selection. It just dosent seem like we got the right value in return for that perticular pick. However, we did get a guy that I think the staff wanted, and I trust that they can evaluate the talent better than I can. I didnt see a whole lot of College ball last year.

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
Backrow posted this earlier in this thread about what we really gave up for him:
Pick #35 550 points Pick #53 370 points That is a difference of 180 points If you value next year's second as a third at the same position you are picking this year that is pick #85 which equals 165 points This year's 6th (189) is 16.8 points We gave up a total of 551.8 draft value points for a pick worth 550 draft value points. That is about as even as you can get and we got a player at a need position for us that can start right away. |

Re: Grade Rocky McIntosh
Huge health concerns? We drafted a guy with HUGE health concerns? I wish they had done some background checking on his injury status. A physical evaluation during a workout would have been a good idea.
