Our needs are part of what determines the market, in short how much do we 'need' him. They'll certainly try to get us to overpay & why not? we've shown little restraint in the past, plus Smoot may feel he's entitled to more here.
On skins insider someone said that Tenn. is looking at signing smoot & that makes sense w/pacman's problems. As was pointed out, Tenn. is closer to Miss.
my point is smoot will have options so his agents will be able to up the price cause it's a slim market. Same thing w/Springs, there might be some good $ out there if he tests the waters.

Suppose Smooty and Ryan Clark end up coming back here?

That along with Ramsey being cut and not making in NY....man would some of us have to eat some crow!

I'd be fine eating crow on Clark, I don't see Ramsey coming back even though I wouldn't mind it. I didn't want to see him leave or Smoot. But Clark ? I was ready for it after he got stiff armed by LT for the winning TD. I surely missed him last year though !

I think in retro the decision on Pierce and Clark can be seen as mistakes. The decision on Smoot cannot be seen as a mistake though. He wanted more than he was worth and the Vikings have seen that. He can come back here hopefully for a fair deal and we can get value on it.

Nice wordplay TAF!

And no, Toomer was too busy filming a new music video with R. Kelly.

If you guys read the La Conforna article on another post, since clements is too high priced it will probably will be smoot or Bly. I'd welcome them both. I think there is a great possibility that we'll see Smoot running his mouth on our local news once again. It will be good. I hope he really hasn't fallen off that much and can regain the level he played at in 04.

I am much more concerned about his level of play than his naval escapades. He hasn't preformed well (except on the boat) in MN. Hopefully, we won't break the bank here...

(For all that, I loved Smoot when he was here...)

I'd take him back. He isn't a good corner. he really never was. He had a good year opposite Shawn springs in a defense that was so good and stopping yards, it was hard for a CB to f... up too much as long as they were above average.

Why would you take him back if you think he isn't good?

I think he was a good cover corner, but couldn't tackle. With ST in the picture now, he wouldn't be called on to make as many tackles. I would be happy to have him back.

Smoot is a DECENT coverage corner and I will be glad to get him back at the right price. My only concerns about him are (1) he's willing to try to stop the run, but it seems like he gets injured every time he makes a tackle on a RB and (2) he's not exactly the most effective blitzer. In most systems, such concerns wouldn't be that big of a deal, but GW asks his corners to do an awful lot.

I agree but at this point we need to wrry about actually covering WRs rather blitzing CBs. I know it is all part of the scheme but look at what our 'blitzing corners' did for us last year. Let's get some guys who can cover and then worry about the blitz packages.

Good point. I definately noticed that we didn't see as many corner blitzes last year because our coverage was generally so bad.

This defense used to be the shit. We would blitz from everywhere and stop the run while covering everyone down field.

I won't mind if he doesn't blitz though, as long as he can somehow help sean taylor in the back field, I'll be happy. I feel the same way about smoot as I do about clark. They both are pretty good but they aren't going to make the pro bowl. They just fit our system. Smoot should have never left. Maybe I'm just hoping bringing back smoot will be a step in making this a GW defense again.
