Re: What does everyone read?
I remember seeing Lonesome Dove the mini-series on TV back in 1989, with good ol' Rick Schroder.
And then "Return to Lonesome Dove" came out just a few years later. I don't remember it but I do remember developing a huge crush on a relatively new actress who burst onto the scene with a stirring performance as Rick's young wife...that actress was Reese Witherspoon

Re: What does everyone read?
That was sort of Paul Harvey-esque wasn't it?

Re: What does everyone read?
Lonesome Dove was a huge deal when it was on. Robert Duvall's performance is among the greatest of all time. I love it when he says to Robert Urich?, "He's going to find a tree to hang you from, son." Masterful.
Everybody I knew, and I mean EVERYBODY was watching that show.

My dad's Ph.D. is in philosophy so I was introduced to stuff like Spinoza relatively early. Bet you can guess what his job is.

If you want to read something really gross by him read the first story, 'Testy Festy' in his collection "Stranger Than Fiction." The worst part is that it, and everything else in the book, is a true story.

Chuck's own father was obviously screwed up, and I'm sure that influenced his life. In fact, his father was eventually murdered by the ex-husband of a woman he seeing. Like I said in my first post, he's my favorite writer so I've read up on him, basically through wikipedia and some of the stories in STF.
