Re: Patriots and Belichick Fined, Docked Draft Pick

That's unrealistic. Not only would it be unprecedented, but the Krafts were major supporters of Goodell's promotion. And, it's realistic to assume that there are some other teams breaking this rule. He needs to send a painfull message, not alienate himself from the owners.

There is most definitely some high level political considerations to take into account.

Hhhmmm...I'd say do the probational period, and any team that they beat this year doesn't count as a loss for those opponents. Almost like a "free space" in Bingo! LOL! That will never happen, but I guarantee that would hurt.

It's like a free for all on this thread to use your imagination. I think that they should play, and every game should count. But that their starting offensive line has to play with one hand tied behind all of their backs.

How about Brady has to wear an eye patch for the rest of his career? That would be cool if he was traded to tampa.

You can buy a hell of a lot of sleeveless hooded sweatshirts for $500K.

Belichick's punishment should be that he's required to wear a suit and tie whenever he's in public (like Nolan of the 49ers), rather than showing up to games looking like some drunk homeless bum who hopped a freight train to Gillette stadium.

I think that it is more symbolic and embarrassing. A 28th-32nd overall isn't all that big of a dealbecause they have one other first. I think that both should be implemented.

He cheated knowing the rules. He didn't care. I don't care if it helped him a little or a lot. Cheating is cheating. He should have had to forfeit that game. I don't care that the camera was seized before it could have helped them. There was intent to cheat. If i got caught with notes on my arm in a test i would be f...ed. This is cheating. Suspend him and take his money for those games, forfeit the last game, and forfeit the first and third draft picks.

I think you suspend him from all contact with the team. Any contact at all is viewed as a direct violation and subject to a one year ban as well as post season ban for the team and a $1,000,000 fine.

1.) Your assumption (and that's ultimately what it is) is that he has been doing this all along, or at least before. Unless there is evidence to show that, you can't base decisions on that.

2.) don't know about you, but 12% of my salary would hurt if I was docked that much. $500k is a huge amount & it will likely affect his personal finances. Not saying he'll move to the projects, but he'll definitely notice it as he pays bills & budgets his $ for a long while.

3.) As the NFL & its teams see it, a 1st round pick is worth a lot. See some recent trades to see what you get for late round picks. The fact that they have 2 1st rounders has nothing to do w/it, they made a deal to acquire an extra one as is their right (& had to give something for it too).

4.) Goodell has to be ready to dole out the same punishment to the next team or coach, if there is one. Just because its the Pats doesn't mean they should be punished any more or less.

5.) I applaud you for believing that this is a serious offense, no argument there. I just believe Goodell set the bar fairly high & that others will take notice.

They should make the patriots play all their games on the road.

ND sucks cause Weiss does not have Ty Willingham's players anymore.

Re: Patriots and Belichick Fined, Docked Draft Pick

Greg Williams said something kind of funny in his presser which can be seen at Redskins.com. The teams exchange film (now DVD's I guess) and he said he has seen film from other teams where coaches hand signals were accidentally left in the cuts. The teams forgot to edit them out. Pretty interesting.

They didn't hug last week, so I doubt they ever will again. (spy gate or not)
