He is not the answer, but shit Gibbs isn't, and who is going to take over when Gibbs is gone regardless of if he steps down or stays for the full term? Nobody decent is coming out of the college ranks(maybe Carroll of USC). The best coaches in the NCAA know they have it nice and cushy if they are proven winner already. Any decent assistants out there capable of being a HC? Shoot we got two of the top assistants here already. We need a younger guy that still has fire in the belly still and is a proven winner in the FA era. I mean WTF!!!!! Are you going to keep hiding behind injuries to defend Gibbs as god still? I mean come on, enough is enough. Cowher is the best candidate right now, and if Gibbs stays then Cowher might land somewhere else. This is more than just Gibbs. it is about post Gibbs. Post Gibbs II might look as bleak as post Gibbs I unless we get a true proven winner. Sorry guys, there isn't much out there in the vet coaching pool but Cowher. You want to try GW as HC? Saunders? I don't think so

AMEN brother!!! How many AFC Championships did Cowher lose AT HOME? At least two that I can recall. Gibbs lost ONLY ONE postseason game at home in his entire career. I really don't see Cowher as the answer to advance us further. Before he won his Super Bowl and got out, I considered Cowher just another Schottenheimer.

COWHER... he said he wasnt coaching this year or next... Gibbs has said before a couple of times he wants to be true to his word and finish his contract ... We have had rumors surrounding talkin' to Cowher .... coincidence? He already has something in place with Danny boy .... Cowher will replace Gibbs!

This is BS. Gibbs assembled this bunch to win now, not to be a perennial contender over the next several years. Too many injury prone vets on this team.

Williams is probably taking Danny Smith with him as well.

yes gibbs is not a personel man. We need someone who knows what he doing. Instead of tradint 3 and 4 rounds picks for lloyd and duckett those picks could be starting olinemen or a DE for us right now. Remember Gibbs said that Howard had no wholes. We could have had Pickens and Vincent in that draft after our superbowl fun in the 92 draft. What have we done with Danny in charge>>> One playoff win in 2005 since 2000 wow

I recall the "no holes" description of Desmond Howard well. That pick followed by Shuler and Michael Westbrook, set the Skins back for years.

Re: If Gibbs Goes, Who coaches next year?

Gibbs will be back for his last season. I still have faith that he will make something happen while he's back in DC. I still think the Redskins are in far better shape now than since he left... Shuler, Frerotte, Matthews, Banks, Wuerfuel, etc etc... Gibbs will be back next season for his final attempt at bringing the Redskins back to glory.

Re: If Gibbs Goes, Who coaches next year?

GW will be our next coach for sure. as we are already set on defense. and let the offense run by AL saunders. continuity is a must for this team.
Gibbs will be active in scouting as team president. thats the best senario for us,

I think this is a non-issue anyway. Gibbs will be back for year 5 of his contract.

Should he be?

And I'm not talking about whether or not the Redskins would be better with or without him. That's a dumb debate that can not ever be based in reason because you can't really attribute any specific performance directly to the coaches.

I'm simply saying should Gibbs have to put up with this much disgrace from his fan base every time he loses. Should he put himself through this mess all over again? .500 obviously isn't good enough to satisfy our fans, and if Gibbs can't satisfy the fans, why should he bless us with his leadership?

I'm starting to think that it might be in his best personal interest to step down at the end of the year. He's not going to alter any attitudes in his 5th year that he was unable to alter in 4 years.
