Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
My only question is, who is our first round opponent?

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
i do only problem is we had portis healthy and running hard, a quarteback we believed in and sean taylor..so minus a running game a injured starting qb and no ST you tell me how excited we should be

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
I've debated even replying in this thread for the sheer fact that there is a huge mountain in front of the Redskins right now.
Between injuries, Sean Taylor, lost run game, and lack of execution, it's really hard to get the 2005 vibe, especially after losing to the Bills. That was the 5th time this year the Skins found a way to lose after having the lead going into the 4th. And while the Skins are not mathematically eliminated yet, but it's hard to see exactly how things will turn out when they play what will most likely be the 1, 5 and 6 seeds in the playoffs. Granted, they have a bit of momentum going now after beating the Bears, but I just cannot see it carrying the Redskins into the playoffs. For shits and giggles, let's say they do win out and make it as the 6 seed by virtue of Vikings and Saints collapses. Their first round opponent: Seattle. A Seattle team who are 6-1 at home so far, have won 5 straight, and have a fairly easy 3 game schedule (at Carolina, Baltimore, and at Atlanta) going into the postseason. So now, you've got the Skins facing 4 opponents in a row over .500. At some point, the season will catch up to the Redskins...

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
Vikings (vs. Bears, Redskins, Broncos)
I can see the Vikings losing 1-2 games there. They may have won 4 in a row, but you gotta understand that the fire dies out sometime. The Bears may be another win...but the Redskins and Broncos (despite their record) are going to be tough to beat. If these teams can stop the run like the 49ers did when they stopped Adrian Peterson. I think they can win against the Vikings. Saints (vs. Cardinals, Eagles, Bears) If you look at the Saints schedule, they are going to be challenged...especially against the Cardinals and Eagles. The Cardinals have a good chance in beating the Saints because the Cardinals are desperate right now. I feel they will outplay the Saints and beat them by a field goal. The Eagles are tough while hanging in there against the Patriots and losing by a field goal against the Giants. The Eagles can beat the Saints on a good day. Redskins (vs. Giants, Vikings, Cowboys) The Giants are in a similar situation like the Redskins. The Giants win games at the end. They close games when they are close. I can see the Redskins getting a win right now over the Giants because the Redskins want it more. The most difficult game is the Vikings at their home. This game will determine who will actually get the last wild card. The best of all, this game will be on prime time. The Cowboys game will be a win because they will drop their starters to keep them healthy for the post season. |

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
No, I don;t have that '05 vibe, mainly because we don't control our destiny; we need the Saints to lose. Of course, we play the toughest schedule of the contenders, too.
If we can get on top of New York and Minnesota early and put them away instead of protecting the lead, it could make for an interesting last weekend against the Cowboys.

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
Until they prove to me that they can go up to the Meadowlands and get a win, no, I don't have the '05 vibe. How many times have we seen them go up to NY for a big game and come out completely deflated? Something happens to the Redskins up there -- it's like the Bermuda Triangle.
Too many things have to fall into place, too many injuries, no running game, no step up performances from our top two wideouts, Stephon Heyer vs. Michael Strahan, ... ugh. Like someone esle said earlier, the earlier losses will catch up to this team. But, a win vs the Giants will change my opinion big time. |

I'm with Beems, a win in NY and I'll be very optimistic about the last 2 games.

NO. and stop talking about it. you're going to jinx whatever it is that might possibly be currently in the process of beginning that no one here should be talking about for fear of possibly ruining.

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
If we can beat the Giants this weekend then I think we can beat the Vikings. It's still just one game at a time. At least the games still mean something as long as we keep wining.
I’ll be at the game this weekend in N.Y doing my best to root on our team. I sure hope I don’t fly across the country to watch them loose.

Hopefully, we can beat the Giants. We always have trouble beating our division rivals at their home.

Keep in mind that 2 years ago we got into the playoffs on the shoulders of Clinton Portis. Until we can run the ball i won't get the feeling.

Re: Is Anyone Else Getting That '05 Season Vibe?
I always look for parallels to the days of Gibbs I, yet every time I point them out it doesn't seem to play out in reality.
So, I'll point one out for the sake of hoping that things DON'T parallel a Gibbs I experience. In nov. 1990, Jeff Rutledge, our 3rd string qb previously w/NYG, came in v. Detroit after Stan Humphries was injured (M. Rypien was the starter & already out for several games). Down 17, the skins came back & won 41-38 in OT & Rutledge threw for 363 yards, a career game for him. The next week v. Philly on monday night, we got clobbered in the infamous "body bag game" at Vet Stadium. Brian Mitchell ended up finishing that game at qb. Altougth Buddy Ryan had his way that night, he talked too much smack & we went in to Philly & beat the iggles in the wild card game that winter. Aside from that playoff win, since Gibbs I bears no resemblance to Gibbs II, I'm hoping we get crazy production from our #2 qb (#3 last year) & run the table. Although Thomas likely isn't playing, I wouldn't sell the running game short just yet. If anything, Collins command of the playbook might benefit the run game quite a bit. I don't think he's good enough to throw most downs & move the ball, but if he can make the short, quick throws, we can keep them off balance enough to run some. |
