More on Mora Jr.....

From JLC's blog: Redskins Insider

Quote:
One thing to watch in all of this is the role of Vinny Cerrato as well. Vinny is pretty tight with Mora - they worked together in San Fran - while there is not a close bond between Williams and Cerrato in any way. So they'll mull this thing over for a few days, and we'll see what they really think of the current coaching staff and roster by their actions when they name a new guy.
The fact that Mora Jr, and Vinny are tight really bothers me....

Edit: Sorry, you are right it does say they are tight. But then he says "there is not a close bond at all." WTF is he talking about?

I have no clue what he's talking about. The more and more I think about it....it seems to me that whoever Snyder hires, he better get along with Vinny because Vinny ain't going nowhere. Maybe GW and Vinny don't get along or GW just wants to go in a different direction?

It really pains me to think that Snyder's decision will be based on Vinny....

Oh Im stupid. I was reading it that he was tight with Mora, but that there was no close bond between them. Which made no sense. It makes sense now that I realize that the second comment was about Williams. Silly me.

I agree. It is scary to think he would make a decision on head coach based on Cerrato. Especially if Gibbs and all the players want Williams. If Danny has to choose between the two he SHOULD choose Williams (IMO), but that seems doubtful.

I hope if Mora comes in that Saunders stays. It would suck to clear house entirely. I feel like Defense can adjust to a new system quicker then an offense. Is there any truth to that? or is the adjustment period usually about the same on either side of the ball?

I read the blog this morning & immediately had the same fears; please don't hire Mora just because vinny likes him or he does a great interview. The dude said his dream job would be at U of W. He's a west coast guy & he didn't win immediately, would end up looking like the OBC in b&g. I just can't see Mora here.

Did anybody catch the Comcast morning sports show? Bram Weinstein (on Washington Post Live) was saying that he was thinking Mora could be introduced as the HC in the next few days. I would completely dismiss it if it weren't for the fact that this guy has been covering the situation for some time.

Every single player and coach has unequivocally supported Gregg Williams, not even a "well you play for whoever the coach is" or a "we're professionals here and you have to do your job" It will truly blow my mind, and it will show us just how much Dan Snyder is in Vinny's pocket.

I don't care if they hire a coach that I've never heard of. As long as DS takes his time, and really thinks it through. Look at our past coaches, big name guys with good records, and what happened? I think he'll make the right decision, and for once I'm going to stand by him on it. If he makes a bad choice, then maybe Tom Cruise should be in charge of hiring our personel. Hell, he has to be a good judge of talent.

But I think for once, he doesn't really have to think it through...its a no-brainer in my opinion, even if he hires Williams and we go 1-15...he'll get a pass because its what everyone wanted. If he hires Mora however, and we win 6 or 7 games...the roof will come down on FedEx

I don't know much about Mora, and it's not exactly the splashy move a la Spurrier. The part I didn't like in the latest blog was where JLC said that the NFL person he spoke with talked about how Mora gave a great interview and was charming. I guess the interview has to count for something, but hiring someone off an interview seems dubious, you've got to look at production. From afar it does seem that Mora got kind of a raw deal in Atlanta, and that the UW comments were taken WAY too far, but it just seems that GW is a better candidate, with better production in the league, who's been with the team, who has the support of the players and fans, and if he doesn't work out then Snyder can go hire Cowher or whoever else he wants. Why not give him a shot? Seems like that is just a much safer option no matter what happens.

Not to mention if GW has the coaching staff, players, fans AND JOE GIBBS SUPPORT to be the replacement, what more needs to be said. Hes done a great job as a defensive cordinator for the team, hes ready for the next step.

If Dan were to hire ANY other HC other than GW, I think it would create alot of chaos within the organization. Lets hope for no regression.

Re: With the next round of HC interviews, when do you think the SKINS hire the new HC

I was just watching the Sunday pre game show on ESPN. Mort reported that on the coaching issue in DC regarding GW, that Dan, Vinny & Joe Gibbs all went out to catch a movie & (to talk about issues)...which happened to be The Bucket List, Joe wasn't to fond of the movie/flick name.

As per his report there are still some holdups on getting the deal done with GW? Mort did not have any specifics.

Probably just some final contract details to iron out.
