Re: Predict the Opening Day Roster
don't forget about Devin Thomas as KR. Depending on how he progresses in camp they may use him in that role. If they're willing (realizing you have a new head coach who might change things) to play ARE at starting wr & return punts, they might be willing to do the same w/the rookie if he can contribute immediately as a kr.

Re: Predict the Opening Day Roster
Offense
QB Campbell, Collins, Brennen RB Portis, Betts, Cartwright FB Sellers, Nemo WR Moss, Kelly, Mix WR ARE, Thomas, Thrash TE Cooley, Davis, Yoder OT Samuals, Jansen, Heyer OG Thomas, Kendall, Rhinehart, Fabini, Brown OC Rabach, Crummey Defense OLB Washington, McIntosh, Blades, Campbell, Sinclair MLB Fletcher DT Griffin, Montgomery, Golston, Boschetti, Alexander RDE Carter, Wilson, Jackson LDE Daniels, Evans CB Springs, Tyron, Torrence CB Smoot, Rogers SS Doughty, Moore FS Landry, Horton, Fox Specialist K Shuizam P Brooks LS Albright Practice Squad (In this scenario) Horrace Grant (WR), Bryan Wilson (LB), Mathias Askew (DT/DE), Marcus Mason (RB), Sam Hollenbach (QB), Westbrook (CB), Dorian Smith (DE) , Tyler Eckler (TE) Obviously the longshots are Gatewood, Jackson (DE), Dorian Smith (DE), Torrence, Crummey, and possibly Brown. Plus with Wide Reciever crowded and Mix's...........potential combined with the fact that he's a special teams demon makes keeping Mix more likely then Thrash staying on the team for another year. Also would like to learn more about Wilson's potential as a Linebacker as the depth doesn't seem to add up there, with two injury prone linebackers and one suitable backup for all three positions in Blades. Askew could also have a shot about making the team, but I'm not sure about Boschetti. Either way the odds are against me, as the Redskins have not had a draft class where everyone drafted made the team but hey you never know. Italics denotes the Redskins finding a way to keep a player on the team without sending them to the practice squad weather it be the PUP List or IR so obvioulsy they don't count towards the final 53. Brian Wilson, Dorian Smith, Rob Jackson, Gatewood, and even Kyle DeVan all seem like candiates for the practice squad but some of them could sneak onto the opening day roster especially if they play well on special teams. Horace Grant could be another guy that will be under consideration to be placed on the practice squad especially if Thrash gets cut. Jerome Mathis looks like camp foder after all. Would also like to see if Marcus Mason could go back to the practice squad as I don't fully understand how the practice squad works. All I know is that the players get to practice with the team, they get payed less, and another team can pick them up off waivers. However I don't know how many guys are allowed and if they can be placed on it more then once. Edit: Thanks to Wikipedia I now know everything there is to know about the practice squad. National Football League Each NFL team may keep up to eight members on their "practice squad" in addition to their 53-member main roster. They consist mostly of rookies who were cut in training camps and borderline NFL-caliber players. Both rookies and young veterans are eligible for the practice squad. However, a player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than three seasons. Practice squad players practice alongside regular roster players during the week; however they are not allowed to play in actual games. They are paid considerably less than active squad players (minimum salary is $5200 per week (2008-2010)[1] for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $285,000). They are also ineligible for many fringe benefits such as service time, pensions, and the like. They hope to be promoted to the active roster either by their current team, or by another team who is scouting them. They retain free agent status and may sign with any team they wish without compensation to the original team. With that said my most likely canidates for the practice squad are Curtis Gatewood, Horace Grant, Andrew Crummey, Dorian Smith, Bryan Wilson, Sam Hollenbach, Mathias Askew, Westbrook (Even if he doesn't develop as a corner he's still very useful on the scout team when it comes to preparing to face his brother and I'm not kidding about that)

Re: Predict the Opening Day Roster
Packers cut ties with veteran receiver Robinson
Does anyone think that we should pick him up for a vet min, he had some off the field issues with drinking, but last year it seemed that he turned things around, should we pick him up?

On the crime of recomending the veteran minimum? We find the defendant....Guilty On the crime of recomending a recently cut player because he has a high rating in Madden? We find the defendant....Guilty. Sentencing will comence on Monday. You can appeal the Madden decision but I don't think you'll have any luck fighting the vet min charge.

We the jury sentence the defendant to the penalty of not being able to use the term "vet-minimum","veteran minimum", or any other similar phrase thereafter until the regular season commences. We also mandate that the defendant sign up for Madden probation at the clerk's desk and enroll in Free Agent Hype Management classes. This to be served on the 9th day of May, 2008.

QB Campbell, Collins, Brennen RB Portis, Betts, Cartwright FB Sellers WR Moss, Kelly, Mix WR ARE, Thomas TE Cooley, Davis, Yoder OT Samuals, Jansen, Heyer OG Thomas, Kendall, Rhinehart, Fabini, Brown OC Rabach, Crummey Defense OLB Washington, McIntosh, Blades MLB Fletcher DT Griffin, Montgomery, Golston, Alexander RDE Carter, Wilson, Buzbee LDE Daniels, Evans CB Springs CB Smoot, Rogers SS Doughty FS Landry, Horton, Fox Specialist K Shuizam P Brooks LS Albright thats 48 of 53... i assume we'll get a late FA safety and LB, and obviously one of the camp LBs will make the roster, as will 1-2 DBs. they'll make it on ST play more than coverage in all likelyhood. Practice Squad (In this scenario) Mathias Askew (DT/DE), Marcus Mason (RB), Pete Schmitt (FB), Westbrook (CB), 4 more... probably 2 OL that didn't make the roster proper, a DB and a WR. |
