Re: What this all means for Moss?

The thing that I noticed about Moss is that he goes down to easily after the first hit. That is probably due to the fact that he is a bit small.

In 2005 he was hot and a kind of an unknown in our conference, and that is why he had the good success that he enjoyed. Now, teams have done their homework on him, and have him scouted-out pretty good. He was also doubled-up alot, because we really didn't have another receiver that had playmaking potential. Hopefully that has changed now with our two draft picks.

Also, because of his lack of size, he was not a threat in the redzone, and that hurt us far too many times. We need ball hungry playmakers who have crazy heart when they are out on the field. And we need people who can be counted on to extend drives when we need it. I think Moss is a great number 2 or 3 wideout, but not a number 1 or your prototypical possesion type receiver. If he continues to have injury issues and games where he does not give it his all, then he needs to go. I hope that he can still contribute for us.

This has the potential to help him but I have seen it as the main point in this thread... he gets hurt way too much. I've heard him compared to a thoroughbred horse... when healthy very good, but the slightest injury throws him off. His size really doesen't help too much either.

Re: What this all means for Moss?

I think the added depth could help Moss only indirectly. What I noticed most out of him last year were the dropped passes. Statistically, I don't know if it was the worst among starting WRs or anything like that, but what I do know is that in way too many 3rd and long situations when Moss got his hands on the ball he dropped it to end the series. As many have pointed out the passes from JC aren't always perfect but in the NFL if a "#1" WR can just get his hands on the ball then it is supposed to be a catch, right? So the other targets on O might get him open for a bit longer but he still has to make the catch to be dominant.

I've been wondering how reactive Zorn might be if Moss has really terrible performances. Would Zorn bench him for a quarter or maybe even a full game if the replacement is productive? I say this because there were games last year when Moss played so poorly I thought he should have been benched, but then the question of who to put in was always hard to answer. Maybe, if Kelly and/or Thomas develop quickly we'll see a type of rotation emerge where Moss only gets to play when he's performing.

Beyond this year I hope Moss is not our #1 WR. Overall he seems to make a lousy possession WR due to his small stature, sketchy hands and overall inconsistency.

How? Kelly didn't play in a pro style offense. From what I saw of Thomas, the coaches did a nice job of getting him the ball in different places and he was running all kinds of different pass patterns. He looked pro ready the games I saw.

Overall he is a great WR when healthy, and with him, ARE, Cooley, and anyone of the Rooks out there, I see his numbers (YAC, and TD's) increasing, b/c its his style of game. Let him catch, and run. But I lost lots of respect for him in the Green Bay game. I mean seriously even TO doesn't quit on games, he just sucks but thats a different story.

I just hope that he will be able to bounce back, and with less pressure from opposing defenses on him this year I believe that we will see a good WR in him again.
Randy Moss quit on games before..

Yes, you are right he did quit on the game but he said that he quit the game because he believed that he wasn't any use to the team due to his terrible performance? If I was a coach; I would want a player, who wants to play, on the field..

I actually admired him for that. It takes a lot of guts to say I'm hurting the team, put in someone else, especially for a star player like Santana. From what I've seen Moss always plays hard, even during the Green Bay game, so it's not like he's a quitter and on top of that I bet no one felt worse after that game then Moss himself. Plus the coaching staff should have taken Moss out to begin with.

Re: What this all means for Moss?

He had some bad games early in the year, w/the GB game being probably the worst of his career. While he may have lost that one, he's also single-handedly won or turned games around, which we saw a lot of in 05 & we saw late last year. At the end of last year I don't think there was any more dangerous reciever in the league. He was healthy & confident & Collins was confident in him. He might not've racked up major stats, but he made big plays in big games, e.g. NYG, Minn. & Dallas.

He's still a home run hitter & brings that threat to the offense, plus he's pretty good on the short stuff if he's hit in stride & able to make some moves after the catch. Let's face it, there are only a few recievers in the league that produce major #s & are good team players & don't gripe when they don't get the ball. M. Harrison, Holt, Fitzgerald, Marshall & H. Ward come to mind. It's a position known as much for media highlights as game highlights.

For that reason, I'm glad we traded for Moss, he's been a good player & team leader, always seems to carry himself well on & off the field and has said he likes being a Redskins, unlike the dude we traded for him. He's still our go to guy on the outside & I hope he puts up some big #s again.

Don't really agree that the conference has scouted him therefore they've figured him out.

I do think the lack of any other threat besides Cooley has left him doubled a majority of the time. I do believe he can be a legit red zone threat w/ some more weapons at WR. That's why if the Rooks...Thomas, Kelly, Davis can prove worthy it'll open some things up for everyone else.

or he can help in the redzone and draw attention to himself while its dumped off the Kelly, Davis, Sellers, or Thomas.
